When you think of the British royal family, Bollywood tunes are probably the last thing that comes to mind. But that’s exactly what unfolded at London’s Westminster Abbey during the annual Commonwealth Day ceremony! In a crossover no one saw coming, King Charles and Queen Camilla were welcomed with the electrifying beats of Dhoom Machale, while Prince William and Kate Middleton made their grand entrance to Teri Meri from the Kareena-Salman starrer, Bodyguard. Well, it’s safe to say that Bollywood fans were left absolutely stunned.
The annual Commonwealth Day celebrations commenced at London’s Westminster Abbey on March 10, 2025. As the Prince and Princess of Wales arrived at the grand Commonwealth Day ceremony, they were greeted with an unusual yet heartwarming musical choice. The Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Pipe Band, a Hindu-Scottish pipe band, performed Teri Meri as the royal couple walked into Westminster Abbey.
In a now-viral video shared by the band, Kate, dressed elegantly in a striking red outfit, smiled as she acknowledged the performance before stepping inside. The internet, however, had a lot to say about this surprising Bollywood-meets-British-Royalty moment.
Whether you find the song choice funny or heartwarming, your first reaction was surely disbelief and amusement. As soon as videos from the event surfaced, social media erupted with comments and memes. Netizens found it hard to believe that it was real, especially after videos of King Charles and Camilla’s welcome to the beats of Dhoom Machale. One user commented, “NO THEY DID NOT PLAY THAT! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!” while another wrote, “I need a moment to process this crossover.” A third user commented, “British Band = Indian Mohalla Shaadi Band”. One netizen hilariously remarked, “For a second I thought wow I know their music too.” Another user wrote:
“First dhoom Machalay now Teri meri. Omg what's going on? Feels like a Bollywood movie with royal's guest appearance.”
It didn’t take long for these moments to become a full-on meme-fest. Among the numerous reactions, some users even joked that AI might have been responsible for this surreal moment, questioning, “Is this even real life?”

You might be surprised to know that this is not the first time that Bollywood has made its way into the halls of British loyalty. Time and again, the Royal family of England has expressed their love for Bollywood, inviting Indian artists like Kanika Kapoor to sing some iconic musical pieces for them. In 2018, at the 10th-anniversary celebration of the British Asian Trust, Kanika Kapoor performed Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein at Buckingham Palace in front of Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
Whether it was a carefully chosen tribute or just a fun coincidence, one thing is for sure — these unexpected Bollywood moments will remain etched in the memories of royal watchers and Bollywood fans alike!
