For the unversed, Priyanka's father had left for the heavenly abode in 2013, and ever since then, her mom, Madhu had been her pillar of strength. From supporting her dream of becoming an actress to motivating her to be a part of the Femina Miss India contest in 2000, Madhu has been an incredible support to Priyanka.
For the unversed, Priyanka Chopra made her acting debut in the year 2002 with the Tamil film, Thamizhan, opposite Thalapathy Vijay, and later, she made her Bollywood debut with the 2003 film, Hero: The Love Story of a Spy. “You won’t believe it, the first contract she signed had big blotches of teardrops on it. She said, ‘I am only doing it because you are telling me to do it’. But then she went in front of the camera, it shifted. She loved it, and then she decided that she wants to continue.”

Recalling Priyanka's early days in the industry, Madhu shared that she used to be present on the film sets every time her daughter would shoot. Mentioning how other actresses did not want their parents around them, Madhu revealed that PeeCee loved to have her mother around on the sets. In her words:
“I didn’t leave her side until some five or six years ago when I fell ill and I couldn’t but by that time she was confident. She is one of those few kids in the film industry who did not mind having a parent around. The girls don’t want their parents hanging around them. They feel that ‘you don’t trust me’ or ‘you don’t think I am capable and that’s why you are hanging around me’ but Priyanka always took pleasure in that.”
Priyanka Chopra started her career at a young age, and in those years, her mother sacrificed her career to be with her daughter. In the same interview, Madhu revealed that Priyanka also reciprocated her mother’s support by making her an active part of her team and taking her everywhere. Talking about the same, Madhu said:
“She enjoyed me and made me feel like I was a very important member of her team. So it was like a give and take. I gave a part of my life to her, and she gave me all the respect and everyone did. The way she treated me was the way everyone else treated me. She put me on a pedestal, nobody could shake that. So it was wonderful hanging out with her, I never thought I am wasting my time, or I was not needed, and I am just hanging out.”

Elaborating on the same, Madhu shared that she was never bored on the sets while her daughter was busy shooting. However, she added that she also felt that Priyanka needed her mother to be around her so that she could rant about her work issues without letting any kind of stress affect her onscreen performance. She concluded:
“I never felt I was bored. I was sitting right there on the sets and the Priyanka also if she is frustrated, she needs to come to somebody. It’s better she speaks to me, and vents it out on me and not on anyone else so she could maintain the appearance of her discipline, even-tempered person at work because she had me, her punching bag.”
