This is the story of Adar Poonawalla, Executive Director of Serum Institute of India and his business partner and wife, Natasha Poonawalla.
Natasha Poonawalla is one of the leading names in the fashion world. Most seen in International social circuits, Natasha has a charm of her own. The gorgeous lady never ceases to amaze her fans with her out of the box style game. On the other hand, Adar Poonawalla, founder of SII (Serum Institute of India) is a prominent name in the business world. He is also the chairman of Poonawalla Fincorp.
Despite being opposite to each other, Natasha and Adar are the most sought-after couples, who has been each other’s pillar of strength. How the two relatively different people found each other. Well, read on to know their filmy love story.
Natasha Poonawalla met Adar Ponawalla at a New Year’s party in Goa
Natasha was raised in Pune and after her graduation, she went to the London School of Economics to pursue her Master’s degree. It was at a New Year’s party in Goa, hosted by Bijay Mallya, where she met Adar for the first time. It was her first trip to Goa without her parents. In an interview with Vogue India, Natasha recalled her first meeting with Adar and said:
“We didn’t really drink or party. We got to know each other and laughed a lot. I told him, ‘We’re going to be really good friends.’”
Natasha Poonawalla and Adar Poonawalla’s long distance dating
After their first meeting, Natasha and Adar fell in love. He went back to Pune to manage his business and she travelled back to London to complete her Master’s. The duo were miles apart and continued their long-distance dating. They would meet after a few months but the long-distance dating became quite difficult. In the same interview with Vogue, Natasha revealed that Adar told her since the beginning how he wants to get married to her. Sharing details about their dating phase, Natasha shared:
“I was like, ‘I’m in London, I want to work.’ He was like, ‘Come and work with me. It’ll be so much fun!’ And I said, ‘That’s crazy! We’re just dating.’ He went back to India and I was here for about two years after that, finishing my master’s. We’d see each other every few months. His focus was clear from day one. He was like, ‘I like you. I know I want to get married. This is it.”
After dating for some time, Natasha Poonawalla and Adar Poonawalla tied the knot in 2006 and became parents to two sons, Cyrus and Darius. After her marriage to Adar, Natasha joined the family business and her father-in-law, Cyrus Poonawalla introduced her to the board at SII. She worked as an intern in every department.
Natasha currently managed the human resources and looks after the project designing at SII. Apart from this, she also overlooks at the Villoo Poonawalla Charitable Foundation, which was started after her late mother-in-law, Villoo Poonawala.
Natasha was brought up in a setup where she was not encouraged to speak above the elders or husband. But her in-laws were quite opposite as they would take her opinion on everything related to the family business.
Adar Poonawalla is supportive of Natasha’s quirky dressing
Apart from being a successful businesswoman, Natasha is a fashionista, who is known for her out of the box looks. She loves dressing up and her conceptual looks, broad hats often confuse people of what she was wearing. But it is her husband, Adar, who has been always supportive of what she wears. Speaking about the same, she stated:
“Often people couldn’t understand what I was wearing. They’d say, ‘What’s that? A dish antenna?’ My husband has always said, ‘If you love it, do it.’ If you’re comfortable being ridiculously dressed, how does it matter to anybody else?”
