In an interview with Femina India, Priyanka Chopra opened up about making it big in Bollywood as well as Hollywood despite coming from a small town. “It’s hard because I think we are raised with having many glass ceilings. I come from a small town. So many of my friends got married in their early twenties and weren’t encouraged to pursue their ambitions or professional careers. They have kids that are like 16 and 17 now. And that’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be at home, taking care of your family. I love doing that. It’s one of my favourite things. We had parents that encouraged us and who didn’t treat us differently from our brothers. Who told us – you have a dream, we are here with you.”

Priyanka Chopra became Femina Miss India, in 2000, at the mere age of 17. At that time, her parents had just started their private hospital in Bareilly, which was gaining popularity. Her parents were in their 40s, and they gave up everything to move to Mumbai when her career had kicked off. However, Priyanka took it all for granted and thought that it was their job to help her out. Talking about the same, PeeCee said:
“At that time, I took it all completely for granted. I was like, of course it’s your parents’ job to do that. My career matters. And I didn’t even think about it until I was writing my book. And then it dawned on me like now I’m in my 40s. And that, if I were asked to give up my career and just move countries, I would do it without question for my daughter.”
Priyanka Chopra's job is laden with pressure, and she is being scrutinised all the time. Reflecting on the same, the actress mentioned that her priorities have changed after embracing motherhood and that she has become protective. She added that though she was more open before, now she has become closed due to the judgements passed to her. In her words:
“Anything I say or don’t say, do or don’t do gets scrutinised. When I got married and now of course after having Malti, my priorities are so different. I want to go back home on time. I finish my job really quickly, and then I’m home. I’m not someone who likes to be in the news for no reason. I love to be in the news for my work. And that’s all. But privacy is hard. There’s a lot of scrutiny, especially now with my daughter and I have to protect her. So, I’ve become a lot more private, and protective of who I am. I was a lot more open before but I think that kind of scrutiny and judgement has made me a little bit more closed."
