Ravichandran Ashwin has been winning hearts with his swift skills as an Indian cricketer. The off-spinner has made a remarkable contribution to Indian cricket. Well, he recently announced his retirement from international cricket, leaving everyone shocked with his sudden decision. Amid this, his father made a controversial remark on his son's retirement, which caused a stir on the internet. Moreover, the cricketer also reacted to the same.
Ravichandran Ashwin's father was asked by CNN News18 about his son's decision to retire. To this, his father mentioned that he is also in shock at his son's sudden decision as he came to know about the same at the last minute. Ashwin's father further mentioned that he didn't know what was going on in the cricketer's mind, but they all accepted it with pleasure. He also added that while one part of him is happy with Ashwin's retirement, the other part wishes that his son could have continued. R Ashwin's father said:
"I too came to know last minute, actually. What was going on in his mind, I don’t know. He just announced it, and I accepted it with full pleasure. In one part, I was very happy; in another part not happy because he should have continued.”
In the same interview, R Ashwin's father mentioned that retirement was the former's decision and he cannot interfere in that, but the way the cricketer gave the retirement, there could be many reasons behind it. Ashwin's father stated that 'humiliation' could be one of the reasons why Ashwin decided to retire. In Ashwin's father's words:
"(Retiring) is his wish and desire; I cannot interfere in that. But the way, in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation."
In the same interview, R Ashwin's father mentioned that he was expecting the cricketer's retirement as humiliation was going on. He further questioned for how long his son could have bared with it, and this is why, he decided this on his own. While Ashwin's father didn't reveal what kind of humiliation he was referring to and whether it was the exact reason for the cricketer's retirement, such a statement caused a stir on the internet due to Ashwin's sudden decision. R Ashwin's father commented:
"Humiliation was going on, though he didn’t reveal the exact nature of it. The sudden change – retirement – gave us a shock. We were expecting it because humiliation was going on. How long he can tolerate all those things? Probably, he would have decided on his own."
As soon as Ravichandran Ashwin's father made the comment, it instantly raised eyebrows. Moreover, an X user tagged the cricketer and asked him about his father's comment about humiliation being the reason for his retirement. To this, the cricketer replied and mentioned that his father is not media-trained. He further added that he never knew that the tradition of dad's statement would be followed. The cricketer further asked everyone to forgive his father and leave him alone.
