“Jab amber jode rishton ko toh, kya fikar hai tumhe zamane. Agar chanhe wale mil jaye, arey haan ye duniya, ye duniya badi rangeeli…!”
Who knew these popular lines from 90s internet sensation, Raageshwari Loomba’s super-hit album, Duniya, would prove out to be true for her, a decade later.
Ever since childhood, Raagz, as she is popularly known as among her friend circle, was inclined towards the world of showbiz and glamour. At a very young age, she had started modelling and her commercial-friendly face helped her bag many endorsements. She did venture into movies and was first seen in Aankhen which was released in 1993. Raageshwari did not more than six-big projects in her acting career and realised that singing was her real calling, and rightly so! At just 22 years, she wrote her own songs and started sending them out to media outlets to have them released. However, as luck would have it, her album was declined everywhere. Beaten but not lost, Raageshwari sought the help of her father and brother and went on to release her first album, Duniya, starring herself. Her refreshing girl-next-door charm and immaculately melodious voice made her a singing sensation overnight. Not only did she win numerous awards that year but also emerged as the most popular pop star of the 90s.

Raageshwari was at the peak of her career, touring the world for her concerts and making more video albums when she suffered a facial paralysis stroke, also known as Bell’s Palsy. Her world turned upside down as she was restricted to just home and hospital. She was quoted as saying:
“I woke up one day to brush my teeth and couldn’t hold the water in my mouth. I had a charity show for school that day and was meant to do the opening act for an awards show. It took doctors two days to diagnose it because they couldn’t believe someone in their 20s could get it. One side of my face and chest was numb so when I spoke, my lips reached my ear. I couldn’t recognise myself, I couldn’t talk, I had no voice. My therapy triggered my interest in yoga and I speak openly about it because real stories inspire us. I recovered perfectly and doctors were amazed. I never took steroids; it was all yoga and self affirmations. Yoga pumps more blood into parts of your body and paralysis is a nerve related illness. Bell’s palsy is for people who fail to express anger; I suppose I’d had spiritual arrogance!”

However, ‘the messenger of peace’ as she is also referred to as, fought the dreaded disease with a holistic and spiritual approach. And just within a few years, she was back to being her original self once again. However, the music scene had completely changed by the time she had been gone and she found it hard to catch up. Having battled a deadly ailment, Raageshwari decided to dedicate her life towards the well-being of people and helped people get over Bell’s Palsy with yoga and holistic approach.

Raageshwari had given up all hopes of falling in love and finding her soulmate. But getting married and starting a family was something she had always dreamt about and hence, she gave the responsibility of finding a groom for her to her parents. In 2012, when Raageshwari was 36, her parents found a suitable son-in-law in a London based barrister, Sudhanshu Swaroop. Just a few years elder to Raageshwari, Sudhanshu too, was looking for that ‘perfect someone’. When Raageshwari showed interest in Sudhanshu, and both the families thought it would be a good alliance, things were taken forward. However, not interested in committing too soon, Raageshwari asked Sudhanshu to begin talking through e-mails and slowly sail ahead. Sudhanshu obliged and they soon started conversing over emails.
Talking about that phase, Raageshwari had said:
“We were introduced by my beloved parents and his friends via email. The communication grew by the good old mail. Letters of faith, love and compassion — snail speed physically, but we were connected spiritually instantly. As he is from London, we have spent little time together but all the time over Skype.”
Raageshwari and Sudhanshu’s wedding was a gala affair with the closest friends of Raageshwari in full attendance. The wedding took place on January 27, 2014. Pooja Bedi, Juhi Chawla and many other prominent names from the industry were seen enjoying themselves at the wedding. Raageshwari looked absolutely resplendent in a soft pink and golden zari work lehenga, designed by Neeta Lulla. Raageshwari said:
“I guess people around us were tired of seeing us single. I’m 38 and he is 40. It’s our first time in holy matrimony… Now I know why I waited for so long!”

Even after getting married and moving base to London, Raageshwari never left using yoga as a healing and holistic approach towards life. Talking about the glow on her skin which does not make her look a day older than 20, she had said:
"I’m 36. The internet calls me younger but I have great pride in my age! I want women to feel there’s so much more than trying to work at being young. Your biological age doesn’t matter. Physically, I’m 16. Spiritually, I could be 500. We carry problems with us and look outward instead of inward. Hate what a person does but don’t hate the person. Give love to a radical, not hate. Our basic instinct is being loved."
At the age of 40, in the year, 2016, Raageshwari gave birth to an aww-dorable baby girl and named her Samaya Swaroop.
Talking about conceiving naturally at 40, Raageshwari said,
“I'm pregnant at 40 and naturally. So I want every woman out there to have faith, belief and love for their bodies, if they ever feel the clock is ticking. It is our greatest wish that every couple wishing to conceive, is blessed with a baby."
When Samaya was a few months old, a leading Spanish children’s apparel company had signed her to feature their label. With Samaya growing up to be a beautiful, sweet girl, and a husband who loves her dearly’ Raageshwari has finally got her happily, ever after!
We hope and wish that the Loomba family stay blessed and have a successful and happy life ahead!
