The popular film, The Dirty Picture (2011) is based on late actress, Silk Smitha's life. When the film was released, it was reported that the character played by Naseeruddin Shah was loosely based on Rajinikanth. However, soon, Rajini's fans reacted to the reports, and they threatened violence. Finally, the makers of the film clarified the reports and stated that there was no link between the character to the superstar, Rajinikanth.
The superstar Rajnikanth had a chance encounter with a college student, Latha Rangachari, and he fell head-over-heels in love with her. It so happened that Latha, who was a student of English literature at Ethiraj College in Chennai, was given the assignment to interview Rajinikanth for the college magazine. When Rajinikanth came face to face with Latha for the interview, he decided to marry her.
During the interview, Rajinikanth proposed to Latha and didn’t give her a moment to decide. Although the prospect of marrying a well-established actor excited her, she stayed calm and told him she needed to discuss it with her family.
It was Rajinikanth’s humble nature that attracted Latha to him. Despite being such a renowned name in the film industry, Rajini was very grounded. He met her parents, and with the consent of both families, the duo got married on February 26, 1981, in a traditional South Indian style wedding at the famous Lord Balaji temple in Tirupati. Soon, they became parents to two lovely girls, Aishwaryaa and Soundarya.
