Randeep Hooda is an Indian actor, writer, producer, and filmmaker. After making his debut in 2001 with the film, Monsoon Wedding, the actor has been chosen for many versatile roles. From playing supporting roles in movies like Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, Jannat 2, Cocktail, Highway, and Sarbjit to making his Hollywood debut in Extraction, Randeep Hooda has proved his versatility from time to time. At his recent public appearance at an event, the actor talked about his choice of films and how boycott culture has affected the film industry.
Every actor has a different skill set and a different choice of films. Randeep Hooda discussed the same topic when he attended the India Today Mind Rocks 2024 Youth Summit. Remaining unaffected by the negativity and comparisons around him, the actor shared why he chose to do underrated roles over the years, instead of focusing on commercially successful characters. He said:
“I have always wanted to not just do frothy films. In India and everywhere, we are looking at entertainment, where we are not required to apply our minds too much. But, I've been fortunate enough to choose films at the sacrifice of not doing enough - out of 24 years of my experience as a professional actor, I've not been on the sets for 11 years. So, either I am waiting for something meaningful to come across or I am preparing for something.”
As he continued, the Murder 3 actor talked about his unique selling proposition and his “transformational acting”. Randeep also voiced his thoughts on being compared in dancing to actors like Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor, and Tiger Shroff. He said:
“This is the reason why I prefer to do transformational acting, or method acting, where you are preparing yourself to know the truth of a character…That's where you create a difference. And because I was not good at dancing, I chose to be good at this. So, why compete with Hrithik, Shahid and Tiger because they dance so well? They can't do what I do. Find your USP.”
At the same event, the actor also shared his opinions on the prevailing boycott culture on film releases. Randeep pointed out that the boycott trend is just a hoax, and it doesn’t necessarily mean people won’t watch the film. He then threw light on how the actors’ popularity impacts the box-office success of the films. He said he doesn’t care about this culture, and even though he has been cancelled many times, he is still there in the industry.
Randeep Hooda has received acclaim for several films, including, but not limited to, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, Sarbjit, Highway, Kick, Love Aaj Kal, and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. The actor has also directed and co-produced the latter film. Talking about his upcoming projects, the actor hinted at his presence in an upcoming film featuring Sunny Deol.
