Ratna Pathak is one of the most renowned names in Indian cinema. After her extensive work in theatre, she rose to prominence with the hit TV serial, Idhar Udhar. With films like Mandi, Mirch Masala, Paheli, Golmaal 3, Khoobsurat, Kapoor and Sons, and many others, Ratna has proved her versatility on the silver screen.
Ratna garnered widespread recognition after portraying the role of 'Maya Sarabhai' in the cult sitcom, Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai. The actress had a non-conventional marriage with the maestro of parallel cinema, Naseeruddin Shah. After dating for seven years, Ratna and Naseeruddin tied the knot in 1982.

It was never a bed of roses for both celebs, as they had their fair share of ups and downs. In a recent interview with Lallantop, Ratna revealed that her parents were apprehensive about her union with Naseeruddin because of his previous marriage. For the uninitiated, Naseeruddin was previously married to Manara Sikri and has a daughter named Heeba.
In the same interview, Ratna also spoke about the financial instability was another concern of her parents. Talking about their volatile profession, Ratna stated:
“On top of it, he was an actor. Aur aisi shakal ke saath! Back then, Naseer would get to hear this a lot, that how can a guy with a face like that become an actor, including from his family. Even if you are a wonderful actor, survival of an actor is always a tricky proposition. No one can give you a guarantee, it is a tough life.”

Going further in the interview, Ratna shared that her mother shared a very friendly relationship with Naseer and it eventually worked in their favour. Recalling her first meeting with Naseer at a gannewale ki dukan, Ratna stated:
“I knew that three boys had come from NSD, Naseer, Rajendra Jaspal and Om Puri, though he wasn’t working but he used to come often for rehearsals.”
On her appearance on Twinkle Khanna‘s YouTube talk show, The Icons, Ratna Pathak opened up about her marital life with Naseeruddin. The actress also mentioned one piece of advice she received from her husband that helped her to ease her relationship with the actor's daughter from his first marriage. Ratna shared that Naseer told her not to give too much name to any relationship and to keep it flexible. The veteran actress also mentioned that the advice actually helped her bond with Heeba develop well.
Ratna Pathak and Naseeruddin Shah have two sons, Imaad Shah and Vivaan Shah.
