Born as Bhanurekha, the vivacious diva of Bollywood, Rekha is ageing like a fine wine. Be it her sensual eyes or charming smile, Rekha has been ruling millions of hears over the years. The gorgeousness recently appeared on the cover of the International magazine Vogue Dubai and mesmerised her millions of fans.
In a recent interview with Vogue, the gorgeousness revealed the reason behind staying away from the silver screen since 2014. For the unversed, Rekha was last seen on the big screen with her 2014 film, Super Nani, which also starred Randhir Kapoor, Sharman Joshi and Anupam Kher. Stating the reason behind her absence from films, Rekha said that she is guided by her instinct. Elaborating on the same, she stated:

“My person is my own, but my cinematic persona is in the eyes of the beholder. Therefore, I choose where I want to be and where I don’t want to be."

In the same conversation, Rekha shared her gratitude for having the privilege to choose the project that she wants to do and say no to others. She also stressed that the right project would find her. Calling herself free, Rekha stated:
“And to have the luxury to simply say no. This keeps my soul alert."
Rekha started her career in 1958, and despite some successful films, she got recognition as an actress in the mid-to-late 70s. Born out of wedlock, Rekha is the daughter of renowned actor, Gemini Ganesan and actress, Pushpavalli. Due to financial constraints, Rekha had to quit her studies and started her career in acting at the age of 13.

Rekha has often played strong and complicated female characters. Even after a lot of ups and downs in her career graph, Rekha has often managed to scale through all the highs and lows. She has often reinvented herself and sustained her status. She made her Hindi film debut with Sawan Bhadon in 1970, but despite her acting chops, Rekha was criticised for her looks and weight.
Taking all the criticisms with a pinch of salt, Rekha started working on her appearance, technique and command over the Hindi language and transformed herself into a diva. She got huge recognition in the films, Ghar, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Khubsoorat, Umrao Jaan, Utsav, Khoon Bhari Maang and a few others.
For the unversed, Rekha made a special appearance in the film, Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se in 2018.
