However, out of all her rumoured affairs, Rekha’s passionate relationship with Amitabh Bachchan ruled the tabloids for many years. Amitabh was already married to Jaya Bachchan when the stories of his affair with Rekha made the headlines. She not only became the other woman in his life but was also tagged as a home breaker by many, as it was reported that Rekha was the reason for rifts between Amitabh and Jaya. Despite many years, there are murmurs about Rekha’s true emotions for Amitabh and how she longed for the same to be reciprocated.

A video of Rekha is doing rounds on social media, in which the actress was seen gracing Kapil Sharma’s show, Comedy Nights With Kapil. In one of the segments of the show, a little girl expressed her wish to sing a song for the diva, and she asked her to come to the stage. Sitting on Rekha’s lap, the girl began to sing the actress’ popular song, Neela Aasman So Gaya.
As the little girl forgot some lines, Rekha helped her complete the song and while the camera panned towards the actress’ face, she was seen getting emotional. As she helped the girl complete the song, a teardrop rolled from the actress’ eyes. It was rather an emotional song for Rekha as it was picturised on her and Amitabh Bachchan in the film, Silsila. For the unversed, the song was played when Amitabh and Rekha’s character parted ways in the film.

As soon as the video was shared on social media, many netizens reacted to the same and showed their sympathy for the actress and commented on her true emotions for Amitabh. One of the users wrote, “Unka dard dikhta yrr. Aakhir dil ki bat zuba pe aahi gayi ek amar prem kahani.” Another wrote, “Aankhe dab daba gayi Rekha ji ki.”

Yash Chopra’s film, Silsila was literally the on-screen portrayal of the off-screen love triangle of Rekha, Amitabh and Jaya. When Yash Chopra shared his idea with Amitabh Bachchan, he immediately agreed to do the film, but Yash had wanted Rekha to play the role of his girlfriend in the love triangle. Despite his promise to Jaya Bachchan that he would never work with Rekha, Amitabh agreed to work in the film. However, Rekha later bagged out of the film.
The casting of Silsila took many years as many leading ladies were approached for the roles opposite Amitabh. Yash wanted to cast Rekha and Jaya together with Amitabh, which was impossible, looking at the history of the trio. It took a lot of effort by Yash Chopra to even make Jaya listen to the script. However, it was the film's climax, when Amitabh came back to his wife, leaving his girlfriend, which made Jaya accept the role.
Though the Silsila of Rekha and Amitabh still leads the headlines, it is certain that the latter is not yet over her love for him.
