Richa Chadha was an integral part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which has been the talk of the town since its release. In the series, she played the role of a lovelorn courtesan, who features in the first two episodes of the web series. Now, the actress opened up about her worries for her role in an interview with PTI.
Richa Chadha played the role of 'Lajjo' in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. She wore heavy costumes, danced with a 10-kg outfit, and gave 99 takes for a shot. Despite her hard work, Richa shared on her Instagram that the scene for which she gave so many retakes didn't get released. In an interview with PTI, the actress shared how she took a risk with the web series. She was quoted saying:
"The memories were many and so was the risk, and it all paid off."

Richa Chadha shared that she worried her minor role in an ensemble cast would go unnoticed. Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has a multi-starrer cast, including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal Mehta, among others. Also, Richa's character features in only the first two of the eight-episode series. So, she thought her role would get lost amidst others. Richa shared:
"It's so small and there's always a risk that it'll get lost in the eight episodes with all the actors that are there. A big star cast and other people are also getting a lot of love. So for that reason, I was afraid a little bit that it might get lost, but I'm really glad it hasn't."
The 37-year-old star revealed that she had to go through a meticulous process to portray her character of a courtesan who went through a major tragedy. Richa Chadha shared how the heartbreak of her character from the web series is also relatable in the modern world. She was quoted by PTI saying:
"Women like Lajjo are all around us. I think that's why there's so much love for this character, even though she is from the 1940s and we are in 2024 now... There is this feeling of sympathy because everyone's had their heart broken in some way at some point. I'm yet to meet someone who hasn't liked the role because everyone can relate to a wounded soul."
