Rohit Shetty is a pioneer name in the film industry. He is synonymously known for all the action and stunt work which takes place in Bollywood films, and surely leaves everyone hooked to silver screens. Movies such as Golmaal, Singham, Chennai Express, Indian Police Force among others are the creative masterpieces of this filmmaker giant. And now, Rohit walked down the memory lane and recalled how he landed up onto this love for everything action-based and daredevil in nature.
In an interview with the ANI, Rohit Shetty opened up about his father, MB Shetty, who had been a legendary stuntman in Hindi cinema. The promising filmmaker recalled his childhood, when his father, with a height of over 6 feet would come to the school to attend his PTM meetings. Rohit added that while nearly all of his friends would be scared to see his father, the latter, on the contrary, was an absolutely humble, soft spoken and an emotional person. In his words:
“He was tall, 6’3 feet and people used to get scared of him. When he used to come to my school, the students would get scared. It was fun for me. The PTMs were my days. There was an era where the image used to work more than anything else. No social media, you can’t see actor or character actor. He was a very soft-spoken guy and very humble and down to earth as he came from a very humble background and was very emotional.”

Speaking more about his beloved father, Rohit Shetty then remembered seeing the former return home all bloodied. He remarked how his father was the first one to invent stunt, based on glass breaking, as a result of which he would get a lot of cuts and stitches. Adding how it was looking at his father that he inspired to follow the same path, the filmmaker revealed:
“He invented glass break, going through the glass, he invented that. Before that, it used to not happen. Obviously, he used to get cuts and all. He got a lot of cuts. I remember he used to come home with blood and stitches. Looking at him… I thought this is my life… this is what I have to do.”
Well, Rohit wasn’t just inspired by his father, but also by his mother, Ratna Shetty, who also happened to be a stuntwoman. Rohit Shetty revealed that his mother was the body double in the popular film, Seeta Aur Geeta, where she enacted the body double of Hema Malini. She also was a stuntwoman for legendary actress, Vyjanthimala. Crediting how action is therefore a part of his very DNA, Rohit said:
“My mom was a stuntwoman. She did Seeta Aur Geeta. The Hema Malini you see on the fan is actually my mom. She also played a body double to veteran star Vyjanthimala. The Vyjanthimala rolling down the staircase, it’s her, her physique was such. That’s why I am like this. It is a family business breaking bones. It is in our DNA to break our own bones.”
