Ever since the debacle, the internet had stirred against the Bengali singer, Rupankar Bagchi. Apart from the online trolls and blame games, the musician had got death threats even after he had apologised publicly to KK's family. However, in an interview with ETimes, Rupankar openly talked about the controversy and clarified that he has immense respect for every artist. Getting emotional, the singer confessed his mistake and shared:
"I know it was a mistake. It wasn't the proper way to share my opinion. I couldn't make people understand what I meant to say. I have utmost respect for other singers. Be it Lata Mangeshkar, Arijit Singh, Kavita Krishnamurti or Shaan – I listen to everyone's song. I made those comments as a Bengali and to express my opinion I used KK's name. Now I know it was wrong. It was a blunder. I had also mentioned a few other singers' names from Bengal. This was also wrong. I should have asked their permission before taking their names. Later what they say responding to my comments was absolutely right. I also want to share with everyone, I am also a big fan of KK's voice."
Going further in the interview, when Rupankar was asked whether he now realises what mistakes he had made while remarking such nasty comments and whether he should have been more responsible about it, the singer mentioned:
"I have thought about this. I think I started using social media more frequently since the corona lockdowns. Just like we used to speak to our friends open-mindedly in the 90s I was using the same kind of language on Facebook while interacting with fans and followers. Rupankar has never ever spoken like this in public. I didn't realize that on social media you can't just say whatever you have in mind. You have to choose your words wisely. But, I must say I am thankful to those who have criticized me during the KK controversy. They have shown me how to speak on social media and for that, I am forever grateful to them."

Adding further to the conversation, Rupankar shared that he needed this push, a reality check to get back to his senses when he was asked what lessons he had learnt from the recent events. In his words:
"I think a setback, a sudden blow was required. Now I know singer Rupankar is not a big celebrity. He's not just a singer. He's a father, a husband, a complete family man! During that disastrous time, I have seen my always smiling daughter crying helplessly after seeing her father getting bullied. I realized the mistake I did at that moment. My wife remained sleepless at night, mentally shocked, and was getting indecent messages on phone Rupankar realized how much he should speak and what he shouldn't say. And, he became more conscious, more composed."
For the unversed, in his live video, a furious Rupankar Bagchi could be seen talking about Mumbai artists aggressively. Mentioning KK's performance in Kolkata, he had made some nasty comments about the late singer. An excerpt of what he had said:
"I got to know through Facebook that the one and only KK was in Kolkata for a show and there has been a lot of excitement about it. I have seen videos of mine, Anupam Roy, Somata, Emaan Chakraborty, Ujjaini Mukherjee, Cactus, Fossils, Rupam Islam and others. I think we all sing better than KK, why do you not get excited about us? What is the reason? KK.. KK.. KK.. Who is KK? We are better than any K. All the singers I have mentioned are far far better than Mr KK. Be a Bengali, guys please."
