Remember the famous Sadhana-cut, we all get while we were young? Well, the haircut became famous after the late legendary actress, Sadhana Shivdasani, popularly known as 'Sadhana', who adorned it. While she is no longer with us, her famous Sadhana-cut hairstyle lives on. The new generation might call it fringe-style or bangs, but for our parents and us, it was the classy Sadhana cut that would instantly elevate their little girl's look.
For those who don't know, Sadhana was a famous actress in the 1960s and 1970s. She was loved for her jaw-dropping performances in films like Ek Musafir, Ek Hasina, Asli Naqli and Mere Mehboob. However, it was her look that made her the style icon. When long hair ruled the scenes, Sadhana was the first Indian actress to flaunt a fringe. And, oh boy, there was no looking back!

Sadhana instantly ruled everyone's heart with her debut film, Love In Simla in 1960. However, it was her look that became a hit, but not many know that it was suggested by her husband, RK Nayyar, who was the director of the film. During an interview with the Hindustan Times, RK Nayyar, who had met Sadhana for the first time while shooting for the film, said that she was the perfect choice for it.
However, RK Nayyar only had one problem, he wanted to hide her forehead, so he tried different wigs and hairstyles, and later he thought to try an Audrey Hepburn-like fringe. But Sadhana was a bit sceptical. She feared how an Indian girl can carry off a fringe. RK Nayyar was quoted as saying:
"Sadhana made a perfect Jane but for her forehead. I wondered how to hide it. We experimented with different hairstyles and wigs, but nothing looked right. Finally, I then decided to try an Audrey Hepburn-like fringe. “How can an Indian girl carry off a fringe?” Sadhana asked."

RK Nayyar further added that years later when on the sets of Mere Mehboob in a simple plait and a centre parting, her director, HH Rwail had asked her what had happened to the Sadhana fringe. He revealed that people were spending money to see Sadhana with her fringe.
Well, that's how Sadhana's famous fringe hairstyle became a hit in India, even after so many years!
