He had a major period when he wanted to start a family with Natasha, and this is what connected him to 'Bunny' in the series since the character had this hunger to start a family. Varun can be quoted as saying:

"I went through a major period when Natasha and I wanted to start a family, and I had that yearning that I want to have my own family. I connected with Bunny at that point, at that hunger for a family. And now that I do have a daughter, though I shot this before, I get the protection bang on."

When Varun was talking about his family planning, Samantha was looking down while adorably listening to the actor. Neelima mentioned that Samantha told her that she wanted to start a family and have kids, thus she was willing to take a break after doing Shaakuntalam.
