Ranbir Kapoor starrer much awaited film, Animal is slated to hit the theatres on December 1, 2023. The film's trailer was released recently and showed Ranbir getting violent on Rashmika Mandanna, who plays the role of his wife in the film. Soon, people started comparing Ranbir’s character with Shahid Kapoor from his movie, Kabir Singh.
In Kabir Singh too, Shahid’s character, ‘Kabir’, portrayed a similar kind of authority to the character, ‘Preeti’, played by Kiara Advani. Sandeep Vanga, who directed both the films, Kabir Singh and Animal, is often called out for portraying his male characters as the epitome of masculinity. Not just this, Sandeep often triggers women audiences by glorifying violence against them in his films.

Ahead of the release of Animal, an old video of Sandeep Vanga is doing rounds on social media, in which the director was seen justifying the act of violence against women. In a short clip, which was shared on Reddit, Sandeep revealed his definition of emotions in a relationship and said:
“If you can't slap, if you can't touch your woman wherever you want, you can't kiss, you can't use curse words then I don't see emotions there.”
As soon as the clip was shared on Reddit, netizens reacted to Sandeep’s statements and called out the director for subjugating women in a relationship. One of the users wrote, “Someone should slap him to see his emotions.” Another commented, “Justifying domestic violence as love.”

In 2019, Sandeep Reddy Vanga received a lot of flak for glorifying the slap in Kabir Singh. In an interaction with film critic, Anupama Chopra, Sandeep defended his film, Kabir Singh, for portraying toxic masculinity. In his words:
“When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you don’t have the liberty of slapping each other, then I don’t see anything there.”
At a recent event, Sandeep was asked whether the backlash he faced during Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy made him alter, Rashmika Mandanna’s character in Animal. The ace director stated:
“The way how Preeti was in 'Kabir Singh' influenced the entire storyline. Also haan controversies hui thi, theek hai. But kuch farak nahi pada, asar nahi hua.”
Sandeep Vanga’s much-awaited film, Animal portrays the relationship between a father and a son. The film, which features extreme violence, bloodshed and domestic violence, depicts a son’s obsessive love for his father. The movie also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor.
