In an interview with Pinkvilla, when she was asked, “How are you feeling?”, Saumya replied, “It's quite a big change in my life. It was quite a tough process as I was working throughout my pregnancy. I began not so smoothly. My first trimester was quite bad. But yeah, I picked up. In fact, I was exercising a lot, for 2 hours a day during my third trimester. That kept me going and I was much better. I genuinely feel it's quite an achievement. It's quite overwhelming.”
Describing her whole journey from pregnancy to giving birth, Saumya added, “It was an experience of a lifetime.” On January 21, 2019, Saumya took to her Instagram the following picture and asked her fans for some unique suggestions for the name of her baby boy. When asked if she has thought of any names herself, Saumya retorted, “Yes, of course. I have names in my mind but we are not able to decide. Of course, friends and relatives are coming up with different suggestions. But we are just not able to fix one unique nice name which has a good meaning. That's why I've just put a post on Instagram and asked my friends on Instagram to suggest names.”
Saumya continued, “Friends as in my entire Instagram as I call my followers on Insta and Twitter as friends and not fans. I told them to give me some suggestions as everyone was asking me what is the name so I say why don't y'all suggest. If I keep that name, I will give a nice, personalised small gift to the person.”

When asked, “Did your husband suggest any names?”, Saumya reverted, “He always comes up with some very creepy ideas which I don't like. I do have 3-4 names shortlisted, but we haven't been able to decide. Everybody has an opinion on something. Somebody says, 'oh we have heard this name. Some say it doesn't go with the surname'. With every name, there's some kind of argument. So we just thought before zeroing on any one name, I will take as many suggestions and as many opinions, I can and then decide.”
Whether she and her husband sat and decided what kind of parents they are going to be, Saumya revealed that this baby wasn’t a planned one and they were nervous of becoming parents without planning. Saumya stated, “We are going to be fun parents. We were very nervous as it was not a planned baby. We were nervous as we will be becoming parents without planning for it. I was very nervous also because we are very sweet, little people so we were very scared of bringing a new life. It's a huge responsibility. But now, we both got very excited because we are going to have fun with him; we are going to be fun parents, and we are going to travel with him. And of course, we decided that how he will be with both of us so that both of us can work. I mean, I plan to work soon. So, I and my husband mutually decided how to manage on the days I am working and the days he is working. We have to be partners in parenting.” (Also Read: Kashmera Shah's Twins Goof Up In Front Of Media, One Even Shoos Them Away [VIDEOS])
Saumya also revealed when she will resume her work and what kind of work she will be doing, “Well, I wouldn't be able to disclose anything right now. All I can tell you is soon I will be working. When I will, I will make the announcement. And how I am planning to do it... In the beginning, I am going to take it slow. I am probably just thinking whether I should just hire a good pram so that I can carry the baby and the nanny wherever I go. One idea was my husband was saying why don't you just buy a vanity of your own. These suggestions and ideas are coming in. But as I will coming closer to the place, I will decide how do I go with it. But the very initial months, the first 2-3 months, I am going to be with him and then carry him with me and the nanny.”
When asked, “Why didn't you reveal the birthdate and directly shared a pic with your baby boy on Instagram?” Saumya answered, “That I am not very comfortable revealing as my husband, my family and I didn't want any attention in the hospital or the media to be outside. We didn't want any kind of phone calls as in the hospital I wanted my peace of mind. I was in pain and I was very nervous. In fact, I didn't even inform my relatives as I didn't want anybody to come to the hospital as I wanted my peace of mind. Even my doctor suggested me that I must not have too much interference in my life. You should just concentrate on your health and your baby's health.”
In an interview with The Times Of India, Saumya talked about breastfeeding and shared, “Yes I am still getting used to because I am a breastfeeding mother and I want to advocate breastfeeding. I know it's tough to be active in every two hours and breastfeed your baby, though I have help at home thankfully. I am reading a lot of books because the idea is to make the baby have a sleep pattern so that everyone finds sanity around. Just trying to learn everything.”
Speaking about post-partum depression, Saumya went on to add, “Yes, I do feel irritated and stressed at times. After delivery, there are so many guests and relatives who keep dropping in without realising that the mother needs rest because probably she must have not slept the previous night. Their energy level and our energy is totally different. There's a lot of stress. That is the reason I did not inform people right after my delivery. I made it a point that when I am in the hospital I do not want to indulge in anything and my husband and family were also very supportive about it. Nothing about motherhood and parenting is easy. You need a lot of support from your family. I really feel for the women who live with their in-laws who are not supportive or understanding. It might be a big happy news for everyone, but the mother needs proper rest, care, love and diet. Nobody talks about postpartum depression because no one acknowledges it. I am very touchy when somebody says something harsh and I get tears in my eyes. I do sometimes wonder why this is happening to me because I am such a strong girl. But then I realise it just the hormones that are kicking in and the fact that I am exhausted. There's so much new to absorb and learn.”
Elaborating on the support she is receiving from her husband, Saumya was quoted as saying, “I also feel the husbands need to be more supportive. It's high time that the men also help their wives at home. Women have learnt how to balance both the worlds outside and house. Men need to be a little proactive. Even they should come ahead and say if you are breastfeeding the baby let me do the burping or let me change the nappy. I feel this way a woman can have a happy family and a happy career. Saurabh is surprisingly very good. He is chipping in and excited about handling all the responsibilities. He does all that he can especially during the weekend because weekdays are very hectic. He has also told me he will work around his time so that even I can manage my work. I am at home for the next two months for sure.” (Also Read: Shahid Kapoor Reveals The Most Important Person In His Life, And It's Not Mira, Misha Or Zain Kapoor)
