In this era of #MeToo movement, nepotism debates and intense critical eyes everywhere, Bollywood celebrities are always under scrutiny. One such criticism that these celebs face has to do with their brand endorsements, especially fairness creams. Celebrities like Abhay Deol and Swara Bhasker have openly said that endorsing a fairness cream is unfair in itself, for one should not promote the idea of fair skin and equate it with happiness and success. Amidst such heated debates, King Khan Shah Rukh Khan has come under severe criticism for endorsing a fairness cream. But the backlash didn’t stop for the Zero actor and it only intensified when he called his 18-year-old daughter, Suhana Khan ‘dusky’. Before we unveile the truth, here are a few glimpses from the backlash he faced on social media:

Yes, while discussing the backlash at the Kolkata Film Festival, Shah Rukh Khan was QUOTED as saying, “I’ll be honest; my daughter is sanwli (dusky), but she’s the most beautiful girl in the world. And nobody can tell me otherwise.” We capitalise the word ‘quoted’ here for a reason, because what Shah Rukh actually said goes like this, “My daughter is sanwli (dusky), AND she’s the most beautiful girl in the world.” He used the word ‘and’ and not ‘but’.
His misquoted statement received harsh trolling and criticism online. The 53-year-old actor also added at the event, “Well, if I still smell a little honest beneath all that’s public about me, then trust me, I’ve never tried to be dishonest with anyone. I mean, who am to do so? I was never the best-looking guy, the tallest person, the most able-bodied person, the best dancer, the guy with the nicest hair, not from a fine lineage and I did not come from an acting school that taught me to be a Hindi film hero.”
He went on and retorted, “How can I belittle someone on any of these seven-eight aspects? My wife, my children, I am all normal people and by saying so, I would be abusing my entire family. I'm a lower-middle-class guy with none of these trappings.”
Talking about his own looks and how stardom has played a key role in it, SRK added, “The only thing that must have worked for me is honesty. But look at me now; because of my stardom, I'm good looking also; I've become a poster boy! What joke is that? I used to have posters of Cheryl Ladd and Clint Eastwood in my room. I never though main Cheryl Ladd ban jaunga toh main Clint Eastwood ban jaunga. That aspect was never a part of my life.” (Suggested Read: Sushmita Sen Trying Her Mother's Wedding Bangles Drops A Possible Hint Of Marriage With Rohman Shawl)
3 months ago, Suhana Khan was all over the news for making her debut in the Vogue India magazine as part of the cover shoot. Proud father, Shah Rukh was present at the event and sharing his elated feelings along with the following pictures, he wrote, “Holding her in my arms again thanks to @vogueindia. ‘What imperfect carriers of love we are...” except when it comes to our children. So sending u all my love & a big hug. Hello Suhana Khan!”
He also added that opportunity for Suhana is not a privilege, “I hope it is not taken as an entitlement because she happens to be Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter but I hope it is seen as a responsibility that Suhana now has. Thank you very much for giving her this opportunity. She is 18. She is lovely, sensitive, sweet and extremely shy but also extremely strong. And I just want to thank you all who were behind all this and for making her look so nice. I will be proud of her when she is proud of herself and the job that she does and Insha’Allah she will do that.”
In an interview, when Shah Rukh was asked if Suhana would have an edge over others considering she is his daughter, he replied, “Suhana’s not working towards a promise of being cast. She’s working towards being an actor, and she knows that. I keep insisting that I don’t want them designed as stars, I want them to be launched when they are good-enough actors.”
Shah Rukh has always been candid and outspoken about where he wants Suhana to be in the future. Along the same line, he once said to a media tabloid, “I’d like her to be on the cover of magazines like all my heroines are, wear any kind of clothes she wants to wear, and look sexy and beautiful. I want her to feel attractive, beautiful and respected, and more importantly, I want her to work hard. I have only one mandate where she’s concerned: she can act, but she has to study first.”
In an interview, SRK’s wife and Suhana’s mother, Gauri Khan revealed that there would be dire consequences for the guy who would ever date Suhana. The celebrated interior designer said, “Shah Rukh would catch hold of him and make him sit and bore him to death. He would ask him so many questions and teach him how to act. He would get fed-up and run away! For him losing his parents at such a young age, Shah Rukh wants to spoil them. He wants to give them everything. He spoils them rotten, I can't do anything. I just have to sit back and complain, like a complaint box.” (Don't Miss: Neetu Singh Shared How Rishi Kapoor Coped Up After Riddhima Kapoor Got Married And Went To Delhi)
Undoubtedly, Shah Rukh is a doting daddy for Suhana and his other two children- Aryan and AbRam. And his statement about his daughter being dusky didn’t go well with a few people. What do you think of this whole story? Share your comments below.
