Shahid Kapoor is one of the brightest stars in Bollywood. The actor never leaves a chance to stun his fans with his acting mettle and handsome looks. For the unversed, Shahid is the son of actor, Pankaj Kapur and actor-dancer, Neelima Azeem. When Shahid was only three years old, his parents got divorced in 1984 after nine years of marital bliss. However, very few people know that when Shahid started his acting career, he didn't tell anyone about being the son of the famous actor, Pankaj. Recently, in an interview, the Kabir Singh actor shared the details about the same. He also recalled a traumatising experience that had happened with his dad and him.
In a recent interview with Mid-Day, Shahid Kapoor shared why he didn't let anyone know that he is actor, Pankaj Kapur's son when he started his career. The actor revealed that he wanted to be loyal to his mom, Neelima. Shahid shared that he felt very proud to make it on his own without being known as an established actor’s kid. He stated that although he and his father had a great equation, he told his mom that he wanted to do it on his own. Sharing the details about the same, Shahid mentioned:
"I was very proud that I was doing it without really being known as an established actor’s kid or actually calling people who your father has worked with because that kind of gives you in. None of that happened with me...I was living with my mom, I was very loyal. I was like I don’t want to… I know that’s my dad and we had a great equation, but I told my mom, ‘I want to do it on my own, I don’t want to tell anyone anything.’ Teenagers are like that."

Going further in the interview, Shahid Kapoor revealed that he and his dad didn't interact much until he turned ten. Speaking about the reason behind the same, Shahid stated that he and his mom used to live in Delhi, so during that time, he met his dad once a year until he turned ten and moved to Mumbai. Elaborating more on the same, Shahid shared:
"My father was not in Delhi, so I would probably see him once a year till I turned 10 and shifted to Bombay. By nature of distance, the interaction was limited. Once I moved to Bombay, I had more time in and around.. we found our groove."
In the same interview, Shahid Kapoor recalled a traumatising incident when he went out for brunch with his father, Pankaj Kapur. Sharing the details about the same, the Udta Punjab actor revealed that once his dad took him out to Nirulas in Delhi, and fans started crowding around his dad and offering him to eat carrots from their hands. For the unversed, Pankaj made his fans go gaga over his acting mettle with the show, Karamchand, where he played the role of a detective and was called India’s version of Sherlock Holmes.

Recalling the same incident, Shahid then shared that his father is a very reserved person and a serious actor. And when Pankaj was thronged by his fans, he held his son's hand and ran from that place. Speaking about the 'pathetic experience', Shahid stated:
"My dad is a very reserved person. He is a serious actor and he takes his acting very seriously even when he is doing comedy. He was like, ‘Ye kya kar rahe hain aap, main apne bete ke saath pizza kha raha hun’. (What are you guys doing? I am eating a pizza with my son here). And we had to run away from there. He held my hand and just said, ‘Beta, let’s run.’ I remember I was like, ‘This is pathetic’."
In the same interview, Shahid Kapoor made a shocking revelation when asked about the criticism he received for his film, Kabir Singh. For the uninformed, many criticised the film for portraying and glorifying the role of an aggressive man who was physically abusive in a romantic relationship. Moreover, as a response, the actor stated that he knew what everyone was talking about, as he had seen physical abuse as a child. While replying to his critics, Shahid stated:
"I've seen physical abuse as a child. I understand what you're talking about. But it was just a dysfunctional love story between a very simple girl and a very talented, brilliant, aggressive, disturbed guy. And stuff like that happens on a day-to-day basis."
