Shahid Kapoor is undoubtedly among the most prominent names in Bollywood. From being a chocolate boy to portraying a macho man on the screen, the actor has done it all. Shahid has worked in several popular films, with the latest being, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, alongside Kriti Sanon. While most think that the actor has had an easy life in the showbiz, Shahid has revealed otherwise.
Shahid Kapoor recently graced Neha Dhupia’s talk show, No Filter Neha and the duo talked about his career and personal life. The actor shared his two cents on the age-old debate of nepotism in Bollywood and mentioned who actually has power in the industry. The son of actors, Pankaj Kapoor and Neelima Azeem, tagged himself as an ‘outsider’ in the industry and said that he loved working hard as the gratification he earned afterwards was solid. The actor further shared that people should start from scratch to understand the real meaning behind achieving a milestone. In his words:

“I love the fact that every step forward required so much effort, and it meant so much, and so the gratification that you felt when you earned it was so solid. It has to be difficult to get something otherwise what's the point of it. If you start struggling in a BMW and then after a star, you buy another BMW, then what's the fun of it? You should have travelled in trains, you should have wondered how you're going to get your photo shoot like that's real.”

Shahid Kapoor was asked by the host if people knew he was the son of Pankaj Kapoor when he used to work as a background dancer. The actor mentioned that character actors don’t have power like superstars, big directors and producers have in the industry. He further revealed that as his parents were divorced, he never mentioned to anybody that Pankaj Kapoor was his father. In his words:
“See everybody says this 'Pankaj Kapoor ka beta’ and all that but you know character actors don't have any power, only stars and superstars and big film directors and producers have power, so it's not a big deal. Secondly, I actually stayed with my mom, so I never told anybody because my parents were separated and there was this whole pride thing that I don't want to say anything to anybody, so I never told anybody. Actually, I told my dad that I had signed a film after I signed it. He didn’t even know.”

During the same interaction, Neha Dhupia asked Shahid to reveal the biggest difference he sees in the industry from the time he stepped into it till now. The actor was hesitant at first, but eventually asked “Why don't outsiders get opportunities the way that they should?” Shahid went on to say that many people belong to the fraternity, and a handful are from outside.
He further asked if this was the case 20 years ago. Meanwhile, Neha chipped in and said she entered the industry as an outsider, and Shahid continued answering the question by saying that even he was an outsider when he came and struggled his way to where he is today. Moreover, Shahid said he did not have a channel and worked his way. He mentioned being proud of his hard work and said:

“Talent is not being given an opportunity as much as it should, and I pride myself in the fact that I am here because of the work that I did and because of the actor that I learned to become and I pride myself in that whether I've had a great career, average career, whatever it is, it is mehnat ki kamai, kaam se, not naam se, abhi sab naam se ho gaya yaar, kaam se kyu nahi. Our biggest superstars were kaam se, we are actually our own fraternity, maybe that’s why there’s a lack of good content.”
