Shahnaz Husain is one of the first women entrepreneurs in India, who inspired a generation of female entrepreneurs. She is the Founder, Chairperson and Managing Director of The Shahnaz Husain Group, which is reportedly worth more than Rs. 500 crores. The most special thing about Shahnaz Husain’s entrepreneurial success is the fact that she made India’s herbal heritage, Ayurveda, popular globally.
It was in 2006 when Shahnaz Husain was awarded the honourable Padma Shri Award by the then-President, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The 78-year-old iconic businesswoman is admired by millions of young entrepreneurs across the globe for the way she made her brand, The Shahnaz Husain Group, global at a time when there was no social media.

Everyone is aware of Shahnaz Husain’s incredible success as an entrepreneur in India, but there are still a series of unknown things about her, that many people don’t know about.

Shahnaz Husain was born on November 5, 1944. However, not a lot of people are aware of the fact that Shahnaz belongs to an extremely wealthy and renowned family. Starting with Shahnaz’s father, Nasir Ullah Beg, was a former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.
Shahnaz Husain’s mother, Sayeeda Begum was the daughter of the commander-in-chief of the Hyderabad army. Shahnaz’s grandfather, Justice Samiullah Beg once served as Chief Justice of the Hyderabad High Court.
According to several reports, Shahnaz Husain completed her schooling at St. Mary's Convent Inter College, Hyderabad. Other than that no other traces of her educational qualification is available on the internet.
At the age of 14, Shahnaz Husain got married to Justice Nasir Husain. It was an arranged marriage, as both families were reportedly quite close to each other. As per reports, after marriage when Nasir was posted in Iran, Shahnaz started exploring the world of Ayurveda which went on to change the course of her life.
Within two years of their marriage, Shahnaz Husain and Nasir Husain embraced parenthood for the first time. Together they had two kids, Sameer Husain and Nelofar Husain and were living a happily married life.

After getting married at such a young age and also embracing motherhood at the mere age of 16, there came a point in Shahnaz Husain’s life when she got blanked. She was unable to understand the purpose of her life, and at that moment she decided to take her interest in cosmetics and beauty forward.
Shahnaz Husain studied cosmetic therapy, cosmetology and also took other training programs related to the same sector. Some of the famous institutions from where she took training and knowledge about beauty and cosmetics include Helena Rubinstein, Lancome, Schwarzkopf, Christine Valmy, and Lean of Copenhagen.
After returning to India from Iran, Shahnaz Husain kick-started her dream of becoming a beautician and opened her first-ever parlour at her home in New Delhi.
It was in 1971 when Shahnaz launched her first salon inside her residence and introduced her products centred around Ayurveda. The entrepreneur received a tremendous response from people, and everything was going in full swing.
The reason why Shahnaz Husain’s products and treatments gained a positive response goes to the fact that Ayurveda was the soul of her entire business. The entrepreneur was strictly against the products, which use harmful chemicals and wanted to build a natural brand which Indians could trust. Well, it is exactly what happened as soon as Shahnaz’s salons started dominating the streets across India.

It was in 1999, when Shahnaz Husain’s husband, Nasir Husain passed away due to a cardiac arrest. It was a heartbreaking moment for her, but she didn’t collapse and managed to continue focusing on her business and children. However, in 2008, Shahnaz’s son, Sameer Husain, who was a rapper by profession reportedly committed suicide in Patna.
After the unfortunate demise of her first husband, Nasir Husain, Shahnaz Husain gave love another chance. The entrepreneur fell in love with Raj Kumar Puri aka, RK Puri. As per reports, Shahnaz’s ties with the family members and relatives from her first marriage went bitter as they were reportedly unhappy about her decision to marry again. However, neither Shahnaz nor her first husband’s family ever made any official comments on the same in the media.
According to multiple reports, Shahnaz Husain’s net worth is estimated to be around Rs. 250 crores.
