Sharmila Tagore and her husband, late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s jodi back in the days was considered one of the most special love matches ever. The actress-cricketer duo crossed paths in the most filmy ways and went ahead to etch a love story like no other. The couple who got married in 1968, enjoyed marital bliss of over four decades, until in 2011, when Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi passed away, at the age of 70. The couple is blessed with three children, Saif Ali Khan, Saba Ali Pataudi and Soha Ali Khan.
In an interaction with Anupam Gupta, Sharmila Tagore remarked that she never shared any of her assets with her husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. The veteran actress stated that all of her purchases, including houses, cars, jewellery or any other material possessions are in her name. Speaking about her husband, whom she fondly called Tiger, the actress mentioned that he had his own assets, for which he made a will. She stated:
“Everything that I bought, my assets as in houses, cars or anything material, jewellery… has always been in my name. It’s not been shared, not in my husband’s name. And what Tiger has, has been in his name and of course, he made a will.”

Continuing with the conversation, Sharmila Tagore revealed that according to Islamic laws, a person cannot make a will for their assets. They can give away their assets to non-heirs, but not to their own heirs. For the unversed, after her marriage, Sharmila converted to Islam. Coming back to her will, Sharmila Tagore remarked that she and her husband did make separate wills, to divide their property among their three children. In her words:
“In Islam, we are not allowed to make a will so you have to think about that. You can give it to non heirs, but you cannot give it to your heirs… 25%, 50% like that. So that needs to be very well understood. We have a lot of land so that needs to be looked at and controlled and make sure that whose name… I have 3 children. Just make sure that everything is in order.”
Previously, Sharmila Tagore graced Amitabh Bachchan’s reality show, Kaun Banega Crorepati 15, wherein she revealed a special anecdote about her late husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, whom she tagged as highly unromantic. Sharmila recalled how, once, on a full moon night, she proposed her husband to go to the banks of river Narmada with her, where they could sit together and enjoy romantic moments. To this, her husband straight up refused, as he cited it was quite late at night.

In one of her earlier interviews with Bollywood Bubble, Sharmila Tagore candidly spoke about her husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s relentless support for her to work, even after marriage. The star recalled how it was very commonly thought back then that women, after their marriage, could not even study, forget about pursuing a career. Adding more, she had said:
“I had a lot of support from my family, my husband, who always gave me space, always supported me in everything. I didn't have to explain myself. So I had that kind of support. I have been very blessed with that. My mother wasn't allowed to go to a co-ed university, she had to do her MA privately. I have been asked, 'How did your husband allow you to work after you got married'. Things are changing. We are going forward."
