Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan were one of the most iconic couples back in the day. While the real-life matches between a cricketer and an actress had not been knew to the world, Sharmila and Mansoor went ahead to set a different bar for many others to follow. For the unversed, the two of them got hitched in 1968 and are blessed with three children, Saif Ali Khan, Saba Ali Pataudi and Soha Ali Khan. After the legendary cricketer’s demise in 2011, Sharmila has been living her second innings in bliss, surrounded by her family and especially her grandchildren.
In our society, women are prejudiced to be incapable of taking the lead in relationships and giving expensive presents to their partners. However, Sharmila Tagore has been one such actress, who, back in the days, rubbished such claims. Recently, during an interaction with Kapil Sibal, Sharmila remembered the good old days when she was in a relationship with Mansoor Ali Khan. The veteran actress remarked how before they got married, she had gifted her would-be-husband an expensive Mercedes car worth Rs. 1 lakh at the time. In her words:

Moving forth in her revelations, Sharmila Tagore talked about her wedding with Mansoor Ali Khan, and opened up about choosing to live-in with him first, before taking the big decision of marriage. While living in was definitely a step which was quite unexpected at that time in the society, Sharmila broke the norms and did it. Adding how being with Tiger Pataudi made her realise that she didn’t want to wait too long for marriage, the actress shared:
“Being an actor, I have always had a sense of timing. After being with Tiger for some time, I thought this is the time to get married. I didn’t want to get married when I was too old.”
Well, Sharmila Tagore has been one such actress who is still remembered for the slightly unconventional and fearlessly shocking choices that she made in her life, which were completely opposite to the norms of the society at that time. The veteran actress has always stayed ahead of times. In the concluding segment of the interview, Sharmila recalled how calm and composed her husband, Tiger Pataudi remained after seeing her photoshoot. She explained:
“My husband was very different. He was very little perturbed and extremely supportive. He was calm and non-judgemental. He was far away in London and didn’t realise what was happening here. I believe there were questions asked in the parliament. I had no idea that it could cause such a stir. I was young, I had a good figure, and nobody forced me to do it.”
