“My husband told me ‘you should go to the kitchen at least three times a day.’ I said ‘Tiger, that is a very bad idea. It would be very very counterproductive if I went to the kitchen. I will start asking ‘Yeh nai hai, woh kaha hai. Somebody would resign. It’s much better if I don’t go to the kitchen’.”

Further, in the same conversation, Sharmila revealed that after listening to what she said, Mansoor started cooking himself. However, her clever act indeed turned him into a good cook. She mentioned that Mansoor had then started preparing delicious dishes. So much so that when she was once in London, someone had called her and talked highly about his recipe. Sharmila continued:
“At the end he gave up and started cooking himself. That was so clever of me, he started making such wonderful things. It made him so confident. He started calling people for recipes. He would make a new dish, watch YouTube, and ask friends for recipes. Once I was in London, someone called and said ‘he gave us this fantastic meal.’ He was doing very well without me going to the kitchen.”
Earlier, in an interaction with Anupam Gupta, Sharmila revealed that she never shared any of her assets with her husband, Mansoor Ali. The veteran actress mentioned that all of her purchases, including houses, cars, jewellery or any other material possessions are in her name. Speaking about her husband, the actress mentioned that he had his own assets, for which he made a will. Explaining the same, she noted that according to Islamic laws, a person can give away their assets to non-heirs, but not to their own heirs. Thus, Sharmila and her husband did make separate wills, to divide their property among their three children.

The star recalled that it was a very common notion in those days that women, could not even study, forget about pursuing a career after their marriage. Elaborating more about it, Sharmila said:
“I had a lot of support from my family, my husband, who always gave me space, always supported me in everything. I didn't have to explain myself. So I had that kind of support. I have been very blessed with that. My mother wasn't allowed to go to a co-ed university, she had to do her MA privately. I have been asked, 'How did your husband allow you to work after you got married'. Things are changing. We are going forward."
