Sanjay Leela Bhansali's niece, Sharmin Segal, needs no introduction. Ever since she was featured in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, she has become a topic of discussion on social media. Sharmin failed to impress the audience with her acting skills, and her expressionless face irked everyone. Her role in the film was criticised by many, and SLB was questioned for promoting nepotism by casting his niece as one of the leads.
Amid all this, we got hold of an old video of Sharmin Segal on Reddit, which again made her a target of mockery. In the video, Sharmin Segal was heard talking about her experience on the sets of Devdas as a 4-year-old kid. She recalled how she used to roam around on the set and would rearrange the props as per her wish. Speaking along the same lines, the actress shared that she used to insist on sitting on Aishwarya Rai's lap. In Sharmin's words:
"4 saal ki thi mai, Devdas ke set par ghoomti rehti thi, props yaha se wha karti rehti thi. Aishwarya ki godi me baithna hai, Aishwarya ki godi me hi baithna hai. Mama mama.. mujhe Shah Rukh ki godi me nahi baithna hai, mujhe Aishwarya ki godi me hi baithna hai."

Sharmin Segal narrated the anecdote with full enthusiasm and was even seen clapping and jumping like a kid. However, it looked like the actress failed to impress the netizens with her revelations. Reacting to the video, a user penned, "Ugggghhhh! Grew up literally on a movie set watching Srk & Ash, yet still can’t act, emote or dance. Itne privileges ka kya fyda!" Another wrote, "Her diction is so harsh. The way she speaks seems so unpolished for someone who had all resources available to her."

Sharmin Segal was brutally trolled for her poor performance in Heeramandi and her attitude towards her co-stars. Earlier, in an interview with the ETimes, Sharmin defended her performance in Heeramandi and revealed that she took inspiration from late legendary actress, Meena Kumari. She also added that she tried to watch Pakeezah 15 to 16 times before the shoot of Heeramandi. Accepting that it took her a while to get through the film as it was unlike any film she had seen before, Sharmin shared that she tried to inculcate the 'nothingness' of Meena Kumari's performance in her portrayal of 'Alamzeb'.

Sharmin Segal started her journey in Bollywood as an assistant director for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. She later assisted SLB in many other projects like Mary Kom, Bajirao Mastani, and Gangubai Kathiawadi. Finally, in 2019, Sharmin added another feather to her hat and made her acting debut with the movie, Malaal. She was last seen in SLB's magnum opus, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.
