Shatrughan Sinha On Not Talking To Rekha For 20 Years, 'It Was Causing Difficulty With My Wife's..'

Bollywood actress, Rekha is hailed as an evergreen beauty and is a symbol of timeless elegance. As the actress turned a year older on October 10, 2023, her co-actor, Shatrughan Sinha, talked about how he is in awe of Rekha's enduring charm. For the unversed, Shatrughan and Rekha had a cold war for almost two decades, but they reconciled with time. And now, in an interview, the former opened up about the same.

Shatrughan Sinha on his friendship with Rekha

In an interview with Zoom, Shatrughan Sinha opened up about his personal and professional camaraderie with Rekha and wondered how old she is. Calling her a timeless beauty, the veteran actor stated that it is hard to believe that Rekha has crossed 60 and added:

"How old is the one-and-only Rekha? Has she really crossed 60? Hard to believe. So well-maintained. Rekha is a timeless beauty, and matchless. So many have copied her style. But Rekha remains Rekha. Unique, no one quite like her."

Shatrughan Sinha reminisced about his early projects with Rekha

Further in the interview, Shatrughan Sinha reminisced about the early days when they stepped into the acting world almost simultaneously. The duo initially collaborated in the film, Dost Aur Dushman, wherein Sinha made a guest appearance, and later, the roles were reversed in the film, Do Yaar. Talking about the same, the veteran actor shared that Rekha looks far more picture-perfect than before. In his words:

"Rekha and I did a number of films together. We started our careers almost simultaneously. I think the first time we worked together was in Dost Aur Dushman where I had a guest appearance. Then came Do Yaar where she was the heroine and I was the bad quy. The Rekha back then was very different from the picture-perfect Rekha we see these days."

Shatrughan Sinha and Rekha's cold war

However, the duo's bond was not always harmonious, as they had a rift during the making of Rakesh Roshan’s film, Khoon Bhari Maang. It so happened that Shatrughan and Rekha had a seemingly trivial disagreement, which led to a prolonged silence, spanning more than two decades. Sinha admitted that he made many uncharitable remarks about Rekha while their cold war was on and added:

"We had a difference of opinion over some silly issue. After that we didn't speak to each other for more than twenty years. I did make digs about her. I shouldn’t have. To her credit, Rekha never retaliated. She is a very large-hearted generous woman.”

Shatrughan Sinha's wife, Poonam Sinha helped him to reconcile with Rekha

In the same interview, Shatrughan Sinha revealed that it was the intervention of his wife, Shrimati Poonam Sinha, which helped the former to reconcile with Rekha. Since Poonam and Rekha used to be best friends, the cold war strained their friendship, so the former helped sort out the things between the estranged colleagues for her own selfish reasons. Talking about the same, Shatrughan said:

"It was none other than my better-half Shrimati Poonam Sinha. You see, Rekha and she were close friends. And my so-called cold war with Rekha was causing difficulties in my wife's friendship with Rekha. She patched us up for her own selfish reason. And I happily agreed to let bygones be bygones."
