Bollywood actress, Sonakshi Sinha tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, Zaheer Iqbal, in an intimate civil wedding ceremony at her Bandra apartment on June 23, 2024. After the registered marriage, the duo hosted a grand reception bash at Shilpa Shetty's restaurant, Bastian. However, ever since the actress dropped surreal glimpses of her wedding with Zaheer on social media, she has been facing immense trolling for her inter-faith marriage.
Amid all this, Sonakshi Sinha’s dad and actor-turned-politician, Shatrughan Sinha, opened up about her civil marriage for the first time. In an interview with Times Now, when the veteran actor was asked about his feelings on the day of his daughter’s wedding, he said that Sonakshi looks the happiest with Zaheer and blessed the couple. He added:
“Yeh bhi koi poochne ki baat hai? Every father waits for this moment when his daughter is given to her chosen groom. My daughter looks most happy with Zaheer. Unki jodi salamat rahe.”

Shatrughan further mentioned that 44 years ago, he, too, tied the knot with a very successful and very talented girl of his choice, and he is happily married to her. However, now it was his daughter, Sonakshi's turn to marry the love of her life, Zaheer. In his words:
“44 years ago, Shatrughan Sinha married a very successful, very beautiful, very talented girl of his choice, Poonam Sinha. Now it is Sonakshi’s turn to marry the boy of her choice.”
For her civil wedding, Sonakshi Sinha turned into a minimal bride as she opted for a cream-hued chic saree with floral patterns embroidered in thread. She teamed her drape with a simple striped blouse. The bride wore a vintage necklace featuring precious gemstones and pearl drops, matching earrings, and a stack of bangles to complete her look. Subtle makeup, a bindi, and a white roses-adorned bun hairdo added stars to her bridal look.

Soon after their civil wedding, Sonakshi and Zaheer shared surreal photos from their low-key wedding ceremony on Instagram. Expressing their happiness over the special occasion, the newlyweds wrote a heartfelt caption and revealed that they got married on the day when they fell in love for the first time seven years back. However, soon the post was filled with hate remarks for Zaheer and Sonakshi, so they disabled the comments section. The duo's note could be read as:
“On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each others eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it. Today, that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where, with the blessings of both our families and both our gods… we are now man and wife. Here’s to love, hope and all things beautiful with each other, from now until forever. Sonakshi Zaheer 23.06.2024.”
