Sonakshi Sinha has become the talk of the town ever since she tied the knot with the love of her life, Zaheer Iqbal. The duo married after dating for seven years despite their religious differences. Initially, Sonakshi and Zaheer faced troubles as their families reportedly opposed their union, but at last, love won over everything else. Now that the couple is happily married, some people are miffed by their union.
On June 24, 2024, a protest march was organised in Shatrughan Sinha's hometown, Patna, against Sonakshi's marriage to Zaheer Iqbal. While it is our constitutional right to marry whoever we want, a fundamentalist group, Hindu Shiv Bhawani Sena, have been opposing Sonakshi and Zaheer's union. They put up a hoarding in Patna tagging Zaheer and Sonakshi's marriage as 'love jihad' and asked the actress not to step into the city. The poster also warned Shatrughan against supporting his daughter's marriage, advising him to change his sons' names from Luv and Kush.

Shatrughan Sinha is completely unfazed by the ongoing protests against Sonakshi Sinha's interfaith marriage. However, in an interview with Times Now, Shatrughan mentioned that people will always have something to say about others and his daughter's marriage is their personal matter. Adding that Sonakshi has done nothing illegal or unconstitutional, Shatrughan said:
"Anand Bakshi Saab has written about such professional protesters Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna. To this, I would like to add, Kehna wale agar bekaar bina kaam-kaaj ke hon toh kehn hi kaam ban jata hai. My daughter has done nothing illegal or unconstitutional. A marriage is a very personal decision between two people. No one has the right to interfere or comment. To all the protestors I say, 'Go get a life. Do something useful with your life.' Bas, aur kuch nahin kehna."
Earlier, Sonakshi Sinha’s dad and actor-turned-politician, Shatrughan Sinha, opened up about her marriage to Zaheer Iqbal for the first time. In an interview with Times Now, when the veteran actor was asked about his feelings on the day of his daughter’s wedding, he said that Sonakshi looks the happiest with Zaheer. He added that 44 years ago, he, too, tied the knot with the girl of his choice, and now it was his daughter, Sonakshi's turn to marry the love of her life, Zaheer. In his words:
“Yeh bhi koi poochne ki baat hai? Every father waits for this moment when his daughter is given to her chosen groom. My daughter looks most happy with Zaheer. Unki jodi salamat rahe. 44 years ago, Shatrughan Sinha married a very successful, very beautiful, very talented girl of his choice, Poonam Sinha. Now it is Sonakshi’s turn to marry the boy of her choice.”

Soon after their intimate wedding, Sonakshi and Zaheer shared surreal photos from their low-key ceremony on Instagram. In the pictures, the couple twinned in ivory-hued ensembles and won hearts with their chemistry. Expressing their happiness over the special occasion, the newlyweds wrote a heartfelt caption and revealed that they got married on the day when they fell in love for the first time seven years back. However, soon the post was filled with hate remarks for Zaheer and Sonakshi, so they disabled the comments section.
