Shilpa Shetty married Raj Kundra in 2009, and they have been growing stronger together with each passing day. The duo is blessed with two adorable kids, Viaan Raj Kundra and Samisha Shetty Kundra. When Shilpa decided to tie the knot with Raj, she was severely criticised for running behind his money. The actress, who was among the leading stars back then, broke many hearts and took the wedding vows with Raj, despite the criticism.

Shilpa Shetty reacts to marrying Raj Kundra for money

Once, Shilpa Shetty reacted to the claims that she married businessman, Raj Kundra for the sake of money. In an interview with Zoom, the actress mentioned that she has always been rich and has even become richer now. Reacting to people passing judgment that she married Raj for money, Shilpa sassily remarked that people forgot to Google her name before making these statements. She said:

"Raj, when I married him, was supposed to be some 108th youngest or richest British-Indian, apparently back in the day when you Googled him, which is great. But I think people also forgot to Google Shilpa Shetty I was also very rich back then and I am richer today. When you’re a successful woman, you want to have a man who’s not going to feel insecure."

Speaking along the same lines, Shilpa further mentioned that she focused on Raj's likeable nature and shared that he's a good human being. However, she also added that she would have never got married to him just for money, as there were richer people than Raj, who were wooing her back then. She said:

"So when I married him, coincidentally, he was well placed. He's just likeable, and he's a good human being. And that's the reason I got married. Everything else is all incidental. So, if he had pots of money and he wasn't a good human being, there's no way in hell I would've married him. And saying that, there were people richer than him that were wooing me at that time.”

During one of the segments of the show, Backbenchers, the host, Farah Khan asked Shilpa Shetty Kundra the reason why she accepted Raj Kundra’s marriage proposal. Before the actress could answer, Anil Kapoor, who was also present there, quipped, "Paise phailaye they". His answer left everyone bursting out in laughter, and then, Shilpa said, "Paison ke alawa baahein bhi phailayi thi". However, once again, Anil passed a hilarious comment and said, "Baahon mein paise they na", leaving everyone to go ROFL.

Raj Kundra's arrest in an adult film racket case

For the unversed, Raj Kundra made his acting debut with the film, UT 69, which is based on his jail tenure. Shilpa Shetty's husband had to stay at the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai for 63 days, for his alleged involvement in an adult film racket case. However, he was granted bail in September 2021 by a metropolitan magistrate’s court. During Raj's imprisonment, the hurtful media coverage against him portrayed him as a disgraced person. Not only this, but his family was also brutally targeted and negative comments were passed on to them.
