Love sees no gender, religion or border, Cupid can strike his sharpest love arrow in the midst of an ordinary life! And this is exactly what happened between Indian tennis sensation, Sania Mirza and Pakistani cricketer, Shoaib Malik. While we had only heard of love across borders in the film, their love story is a true ode to it. On April 12, 2010, Sania and Shoaib exchanged wedding vows and said qubool hai, after five months of courtship. While it came as a shock to many people, who labeled their marriage as an impulsive decision, Sania knew what she had signed up for. In an interview, she had talked about the same, and had shared, “People can date a person for years but break up as soon as they get married. It happens a lot in Hyderabad, and it happens in the circles we move around in. Some people can date each other for a month and get married. I know many couples like that and they have kids today. Destiny! We were lucky we found each other, decided quickly and felt the same way about one another.”
And as they say, ‘Love finds you in places you never knew existed and at times when you have never thought of it’. On April 12, 2019, the couple completed nine blissful years of their ‘happily ever after’ and are proud parents to a baby boy, Izhaan Mirza Malik. Shoaib took to his Instagram handle to wish his wife, Sania, and posted a mushy picture with her. Along with the picture he wrote, “Happy Anniversary jaan”, followed by a heart emoji. However, he deleted the post later and we wonder why. Check out the screenshot of the same below:
Coming back to Sania and Shoaib’s love story, the couple has often been questioned about their patriotism in the most brutal way. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, she talked about the same, and had stated, “A lot of people have this notion that Shoaib and I got married to unite the two countries. That is not true. Whenever I have been to Pakistan – and I go once every year to meet my in-laws – the love that I get there is immense. The whole country calls me ‘bhabhi’, and they give me so much respect. I also know that that love is not necessarily for me, it is for my husband who has been cricket captain and what he means to everyone there. The respect they have for him transcends to the respect for me… Just like when Shoaib comes here, and he gets the love and respect of our countrymen.” (Checkout: Nora Fatehi Finally Opens Up On Her Break-Up With Angad Bedi, Says, 'I Was Broken By It')
She had further added, “Tags are a part of being a public figure. I play for my country, my family, for myself, and so does my husband. We are aware of the responsibilities we carry, but we do not take these tags seriously. They may make for a good headline, but don’t mean anything to us at home!” (Also Read: Sharad Malhotra's 'Soon-To-Be-Wife' Ripci Bhatia Shares First Picture From Their Roka Ceremony)
