Shweta Tiwari Remembers Shooting For Illogical Scenes In Daily Soaps, Claims, 'It Was All About TRP'

Shweta Tiwari has been one of the most known faces in Indian television, who has etched her name in the hearts of countless audiences across several households. The actress rose to fame with some of her most popular daily soap operas, including Main Hoon Aparajita, Parvarrish – Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi, Begusarai and more. In addition, Shweta has also been a part of several reality shows as well as films. However, even today, the actress is still remembered for her role as ‘Prerna’ in Ekta Kapoor’s hit daily soap, Kasautii Zindagi Kay.

Shweta Tiwari recalls shooting illogical scenes, twists and turns in Kasautii Zindagi Kay

In a recent interaction with Bollywood Hungama, Shweta Tiwari opened up about the popularity of unexpected twists and turns in daily soap operas. Shweta admitted how most of such scenes end up becoming highly illogical, and as an actress, she has nothing much to do than shoot those. She talked about one of such experiences in her own career, while she shot the serial, Kasautii Zindagi Kay, helmed by Ekta Kapoor. Remembering how an entire week of shooting was scrapped and illogical changes were brought about in the plot at the very last minute, Shweta narrated:

“We used to have episodes for an entire week ready. Suddenly, one day we reached the set and we were informed we are shooting tomorrow’s telecast. I was like ‘why are we shooting tomorrow’s telecast? Don’t we already have everything ready for an entire week?’ I was told everything was scrapped, and Ekta had said Anurag (Kasautii’s main lead) is dying. I was given my script and I found out it was all about Karwa Chauth and then suddenly Aparna killed Anurag. ‘I asked wasn’t Aparna a nice woman?’ But these were the kind of twists and turns we used to have.”

Shweta remembers getting shocked to play a double role in Kasautii Zindagi Kay

Continuing further in her line of thoughts, Shweta then opened up about another track in her hit show, where her original character of ‘Prerna’ was shown to be murdered by the antagonist. However, she was even more surprised when at the very last minute, the director informed her of playing a double role within the show, where the original ‘Prerna’ was shown to have a lookalike, who was a bar dancer. Adding how at the end of it, the plot twists seemed unbelievable to herself, Shweta said:

“Then once we had a scene where Aparna has kidnapped Prerna and she has died and then in a random bar, there is this woman called Maya, who is a lookalike of Prerna and she brings the bar dancer as the fake Prerna. I was like, ‘What? I have a double role? I am going to be a bar dancer?’ Then at the end, they revealed, they were both the same person. I was like, ‘What?’ How is it possible the same woman is in the hospital and then also dancing at the bar? These are the kind of twists and turns that were introduced at the end moment.”

Shweta Tiwari claims Ekta Kapoor brought about such irrational changes for the sake of TRP

Moving forth in the revelation, Shweta Tiwari then unearthed the real reason behind the makers of the show bringing up such unexpected and unbelievable changes to the show. She talked about the producer of her own show, Ekta Kapoor, and narrated how the latter used to become extremely worried and suggest such changes, when the TRP of the show would start to drop. Recalling Ekta’s reaction, Shweta said:

“It was all about TRP, every time Ekta felt the TRP wasn’t good, she said ‘kill someone.’ Every time the TRP was any less than 32, she used to be like ‘TRP girgayi kisi ko maaro.”

Shweta Tiwari chooses her pick between earlier shows and those which air now

Towards the concluding segment of the interview, Shweta Tiwari made her choice between the kind of shows which were made back then, vis-a-vis to those that are made now. She admitted that while the shows back in the days were highly illogical, those which happen now are beyond anything real. Moreover, Shweta added how makers of several shows now don’t shy away from showing unbelievably supernatural stuff, such as a man travelling to the moon on a scooter, things are just impossible.
