Simi Garewal Reflects On Amitabh Bachchan's Iconic Interview, 'Wasn't Telling Truth About Rekha..'

Amidst the controversies about his life choices, Amitabh sat down with Simi Garewal for a candid conversation on Rendezvous With Simi Garewal about his alleged relationship with Rekha. Once, in an interview with Rediff, Simi Garewal recalled interviewing Amitabh Bachchan during a tough time in his life. She revealed that Big B stayed composed and dignified even though he was in a vulnerable situation and handled the tough questions gracefully. Simi added that she tried to make Amitabh comfortable and talked to him about everything under the sun. In her words:

“We talked of everything under the sun. His childhood, adolescence, parents, ABCL, his flops, his return, his family, Jaya, the kids, the kind of women he likes, his professional decisions.”

Speaking along the same lines, Simi Garewal mentioned that people thought Amitabh Bachchan wasn’t his honest self in the interview. However, she claimed otherwise and said that Amitabh told the truth about his relationship with Rekha. Simi said:

“I think he was completely honest. There are people who, after that interview, said, ‘Amitabh Bachchan is not like that!’ Or ‘He was not telling the truth about Rekha!'”

Simi Garewal further revealed that she had shot a solo segment of the interview with Amitabh Bachchan, and later he was joined by Jaya Bachchan. She said that Big B was more comfortable when Jaya came on to the sets, and he was completely himself. Simi recalled how Amitabh flaunted his witty side then and said:

“Once Jaya came on to the sets, he was more comfortable, he was completely himself. Then the wisecracks began and the witty side of his personality began to emerge.”

For the uninitiated, during the interview, Simi Garewal asked Amitabh Bachchan about his linkup rumours and alleged relationship with Rekha. However, the superstar denied the speculations and revealed that Rekha was his co-star and colleague. He also mentioned that he and Rekha don't meet often, but sometimes, they bump into each other at a social gathering. Amitabh Bachchan said:

“She has been my co-star and colleague. And when we were working together, obviously we met each other. Socially, we have nothing in common. That’s about it. Sometimes we bump into each other at a function, which is, you know, an award function, for example, or at a social gathering. But that’s about it.”
