Simi Garewal has been one of the most celebrated divas of her generation. The diva is known for her graceful beauty and charismatic personality. She has been a part of some phenomenal films, including Karz, Seema, Kabhi Kabhie, Tarzan Goes To India among others. However, apart from her evergreen career, it is her personal life that has often grabbed attention. For the unversed, the diva had hit the headlines with her popular affairs with the Maharaja of Jamnagar, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, among others. Moreover, she was even rumoured to have shared a past with the industrialist, Ratan Tata. But, later in 1970, Simi got married to Ravi Mohan. Unfortunately, their marriage was short-lived and nine years later, they parted ways.
In one of her earlier interviews with Filmfare, Simi Garewal had shared how not having a child has been the biggest regret of her life. The diva then revealed how back at one point in time, she was almost on the verge of adopting a baby girl named Vijaya, whom she found abandoned at the railway station by her parents. While the advertisements about the girl were immediately made in newspapers, there was no one who claimed her for two months. Simi then added that it was then that she decided to take her home and adopt her. Unfortunately, out of the blue, Vijaya’s biological parents contacted her right on the verge of the time when she was about to get the girl’s custody. Elaborating more about it, Simi mentioned:

“You know, the biggest regret in my life is not having a child. I have never admitted this before but at times, I wonder what’s all this for? Who’s going to take our legacy forward? I nearly adopted a girl once. I went to an orphanage and found this girl called Vijaya, who was abandoned at the railway station by her parents. According to the rules, they had to publish her photograph in the newspaper. And within three months, if no one claimed the child, I could bring her home. Till about two months, there was no news of her biological parents. But just when I was about to get her custody, the parents showed up. It was heartbreaking.”

Among all her relationship history, it was her three-year-long affair with her ‘neighbour’, the Maharaja of Jamnagar, that had frequently grabbed the attention. For the unversed, Simi began dating the Maharaja when she was all but 17. In one of her interviews with Filmfare in 2013, Simi recalled those moments of her life, and categorised her affair as a passionate yet turbulent one. She had mentioned:
“At 17, I fell in love with my neighbour – the Maharaja of Jamnagar. It was a turbulent and passionate affair that lasted for three years. He showed me a wonderful world of animals, sports and food. Of passion and compassion… we did mad, crazy things but it grew obsessive. I look back at it now with a smile. But I realised what possessiveness could do to a relationship. It cured me forever of jealousy in love.”
