In today’s world, it is very important that everyone takes themselves seriously as it is a world where people won’t stop judging you. And who gets affected by the same majorly? The public figures and talking specifically, the B-town celebrities. Right from Vidya Balan, Huma Qureshi, Neha Dhupia, Parineeti Chopra, Richa Chaddha, Zareen Khan, and the list goes on, there are many actresses in the showbiz who have been brutally body-shamed. One amongst these names is Dabangg debutante, Sonakshi Sinha!
Sonakshi’s famous dialogue from her debut movie, “Thappad se darr nahi lagta sahab pyar se lagta hai”, would convert to “Thappad se darr nahi lagta sahab BODYSHAMING se lagta hai”, whenever people point fingers towards her weight. In a recently held interview with Pinkvilla, Sonakshi bared her heart out about being fat-shamed and bullied for her excess weight, every now and then. Revealing that she was bullied since childhood as she was a fat kid, Sonakshi was quoted as saying, "I have been bullied quite a bit. I have had my fair share because I was a fat kid. I used to weight around 95 kilos and I was always a big kid. Even though I used to do a lot of sports, the boys used to bully me and call me names. They wouldn’t give me main roles in plays in school. They would always make me stand at the side or be the narrator."
Further quoting an incident, the Dabangg actress shared, "For instance, I remember something that happened in college. So, we had to organise this annual fashion show and I wanted to be this model and walk on the ramp. So, one of the thin girls told me, 'You handle the lights'. I said, "Why? I want to walk the ramp." She replied, "No, you are too big to walk the ramp." I just felt really bad. There's so much you want to do when you are growing up. So, who is this girl who happen to tell you that you can't do it just because she is 10 or 20 kilos less than me! I'm very happy with where I have reached." She went on to share that people continued to make fun of her body even after she had made her big-bang debut opposite, Salman Khan in the year 2010. Expressing her sadness regarding the fact that even industry people and media had made fun of her, Sonakshi was quoted as saying, "It didn't stop there. I lost 30 kilos for my first film. When it released, the audiences lapped me up, but the worst part is I was being fat-shamed by the industry people and the media. That really hurt. I knew I wasn't the average looking stick figure person. I didn't have to. Honestly, I knew I had a lot more to offer than what I weight on the weighing scale. So, I never took that to heart."

This is not the first time when Sonakshi vented out issues regarding her weight and the repercussions she witnesses. In a 2013 interview with the Filmfare, Sonakshi had sounded a bit frustrated and had refused to talk about her weight issue, “I’ve decided I’m not going to talk about it. It’s simple. The more I talk about it; the more people ask. Frankly, it’s a non-issue to me. I don’t want to give it any importance.” (Checkout: Akshay Kumar Reacts On Aarav Getting Trolled On Social Media, Reveals Why Nitara Refuses To Step Out)
In fact, in March 2019, when Sonakshi had appeared on Arbaaz Khan’s chat show, Pinch with Arbaaz Khan, she had retorted, “Earlier, I used to read it and used to think how do people get themselves to say things like that because if you cannot say such things in front of someone how do you get the strength to say such things online. Koi aakar muje ye samne bole mai do mukke na de dun usko.”
While candidly talking to Arbaaz, Sonakshi had remarked, “When I did Dabangg (2010), you had seen me before that also and I was very very big, I was unhealthy, I was unfit and I lost 30 kgs to do your film and still people found words to say about me, about my shape, about how I looked.” (Do Read: Chhavi Mittal Asks Hubby, Mohit To Not Be Jealous Due To Something Cute, Calls Herself 'Creepy Mom')
She had further added, “Earlier, I used to go in the defensive space. I had put in so much effort, I have reduced so much, they have not seen the half of it. They have not seen the effort that has gone in, they have not seen the blood, sweat and tears that have gone in. And, still they are talking so, to hell with it, main jaisi hun vaisi rahungi, aapko dekhna hai aap dekho aap ko mat dekhna hai aap mat dekho.”
