Sonali Bendre began her career in the industry as a model. Later, she went on to work on several advertisements before finally entering into the film business. She made her acting debut with the 1994 film, Aag, and gradually started working on one after the other projects, including Diljale, Duplicate, Major Saab, Sarfarosh and Hum Saath Saath Hain, among others. Thus, she also enjoys a huge stardom. But at times, fans' obsessions become crazy, and now, in a candid chat, the actress opened up about the same.
In an interview with Mid-Day's The Bombay Film Podcast, Sonali Bendre opened up about her journey in the showbiz. Afterwards, during one of the segments of the same, the actress was informed about a fan of hers, who died of suicide because he could not meet the actress during her visit to Bhopal back in the 1990s. Listening to this, Sonali was completely shocked and expressed her disbelief at the same. Further, adding that she doesn’t understand such a crazy fan culture, Sonali said:
“Yeh sach hai? [Is it true]? How can someone… There’d be fan mails. We wondered to test, if it was in actual blood. I’d be shattered, if it was. Best to appreciate, and leave it at that. How can people place humans on such a pedestal, that they’ll fall from, anyway? I couldn't understand that kind of obsession for somebody."

Further in the conversation, Sonali opened up about experiencing the various phases of her career. The diva remarked that after dealing with the deadliest disease, cancer in her life, she now finds it difficult to memorise lines and scripts, as compared to what she could have done easily back in the 90s. She shared:
“I don’t know if it’s difficult…but lately when I started off, the memory was much better. I could read a whole page and remember it. Nowadays I need to take a little more time to memorize those lines. That could be the brain fog post chemo, aging or I don’t know what it is but that is happening, and this is kind of weird for me.”
