Sonali Bendre is one of the much-loved actresses in the Hindi film industry. She stepped into Bollywood with her film, Aag back in 1994. After that, the actress never looked back. Some of her notable works include Diljale, Major Saab, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, and Sarfarosh, among others. Talking about her personal life, Sonali got married to filmmaker, Goldie Behl in 2002, and it was in 2005 when the duo welcomed their son, Ranveer into their lives.
It was in 2018 when Sonali Bendre announced the news of being diagnosed with metastatic cancer. However, despite being in the 4th stage of cancer, the actress fought through the same and got rid of the serious health condition in 2021. Now, in a recent interview, the actress revealed her husband's reaction upon knowing her health condition for the first time. In a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, Sonali added that she was shocked about how this could happen to her.

The actress shared that when she was first diagnosed with cancer, she was doing a reality show. Talking more about the same, the actress mentioned when someone from the glamour world suddenly disappears from the public eye, and there remains a lot of talk about the same.
Going forward in the interview, the actress shared that she knew that something was not right with her, but she never thought that it would be this big. Sonali added when the doctors had done the PET scan, her husband's face had gone white. Sonali said:
"I knew something wasn’t right with me. When I went to the doctor, we discovered. At first, I thought it might be small. As the tests progressed, we realized that it wasn’t small. I could see it on the doctor’s face. When they did the PET scan, my doctor’s and husband Goldie Behl’s faces were white. I saw all the colour fading away from their faces.”

Talking more about the same, Sonali shared that the technician who had done the test told to her that it was like a Christmas tree kind of structure inside of her. In a PET scan, doctors can see how much the cancer had spread, given Sonali's case, it had spread so much that it got into the structure of a Christmas tree.
Sonali then shared that, at first, she was in denial, but later, her husband stood like a rock beside her, and in two days, they were out of the country. The actress mentioned that their son was on his summer camp, and she asked her husband to slow down but the latter snapped and asked the diva to take care of herself. Sonali said:
"I was fighting with him because Ranveer (her son) was not there as he was away at a summer camp. I told him to slow down and give me time to organize things. At one point, he snapped and told me to stop thinking of other things and focus on myself and staying alive."
In the same interview, Sonali added that she was given a 30 percent chance of survival. Well, it was surely a hard battle for the actress. Talking about the same, the actress mentioned when she had to take the chemotherapy, it was like a nuclear attack on her as she was killing everything inside of her body and building it newly.

She also talked in detail about losing her hair due to her cancer treatment. The actress said that she had a severe attachment to her hair, and it was her pride, so losing it was hard for her, but she had to let the attachment go. Sonali said:
"It was tough. I had a strong attachment to my hair. Logically, it’s not a significant loss. It’s just hair. It will grow back once you cut it. But emotions and vanity don’t always follow logic. My hair was a source of pride for me. I had endorsed every hair product imaginable at that time. I was known for my hair. Then suddenly, it was all about to go, and I just said, ‘let it go.’ I had to let go of that attachment."
