Aamir Khan’s iconic hit film, 3 Idiots continues to remain one of the most popular movie of all times. For the unversed, the movie was directed by Rajkumar Hirani and featured R Madhavan, Sharma Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Boman Irani in pivotal roles, apart from Aamir Khan as the protagonist. Interestingly, the film was inspired from the real life of education reformist and scientist, Sonam Wangchuk.

While Aamir Khan’s character with the real name, ‘Phunsukh Wangdu’ in 3 Idiots was heavily inspired from the real life of Sonam Wangchuk, the latter has a very different take on it. Speaking along the same lines, the scientist mentioned that although the film gave a meaningful message to the audience, he somehow feels disconnected with the character represented, that was inspired from him. Revealing how he happens to me more beautiful that the on-screen character, Sonam said:
“Main toh kya kisi aur ne kaha ki aap ye boliye ki film mein jo kirdar dikha rahi hai mein unse bahut zyaada khoobsurat hu. Mein kaise inse jodo khud ko.”
Previously, in an interview with the Hindustan Times, Sonam Wangchuk had opened up on the popular claims of the Rajkumar Hirani film, 3 Idiots being his biopic. Apart from its gripping storyline and amazing performances delivered by each and every actor in the film, 3 Idiots also grabbed a lot of attention for Aamir Khan, who quite effortlessly essayed the role of an 18-year-old college going kid, while in reality he was actually 45. Talking about the same, Aamir, during one of his older media interactions revealed that for the longest time, he didn’t feel that he would fit well to play such a role. In his words:
“I shouldn`t have acted in `3 Idiots` as in no way do I look like an 18-year-old. The only reason I did the film was because it was about education. I was drawn towards stories about education ever since `Taare Zameen Par` and then `3 Idiots` happened. Cinema has the ability to reach out to people and more films upholding this cause should be made.”
