From Lata Mangeshkar calling him the 'Best' to Shreya Ghoshal labelling Sonu as her 'favourite singer', and Arijit Singh complimenting him by saying, "Sonu Nigam chah kar bhi besura nahin ho sakte," Sonu Nigam is hands-down one of the best of the bests. Well, the compliments and awards speak volumes about Sonu Nigam's stature as a singer in India's rich music history. However, while almost everyone is aware of the singer's professional life, here's an interesting anecdote from his personal life.
Popular singer, Sonu Nigam prefers to keep his personal life private, which is among the many reasons why we have rarely seen him being spotted with his wife, Madhurima Nigam. For the uninitiated, Sonu and Madhurima met for the first time at a program and instantly fell in love with one another despite having an age difference of five years. After dating each other for some time, Sonu and Madhurima got married on February 15, 2002. Once, in an old interview with a news portal, Sonu Nigam opened up about rumours of him separating from his wife, Madhurima Nigam. The singer accepted that there came a point in his married life when he was seriously considering ending his marriage with Madhurima. When he was asked what changed his mind, Sonu revealed that it was his son, Nevaan Nigam for whom he decided to keep his marriage.
The doting father, Sonu Nigam admitted that his son wanted both him and his mother, which was why he decided to mend ways with Madhurima and dropped the idea of parting ways with her. The singer also shared that if he had not solved the issues, he would have worked six months and spent the remaining six with his mother in the Himalayas. For the uninitiated, Sonu Nigam's mother, Shobha Nigam belongs to Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Coming back to Sonu's statement on saving his marriage for Nevaan, he said:
"If it wasn't for my son, I would probably have – very respectfully and without any negativity – told my wife that it isn't working out. But our beautiful son wants his parents together. My wife is a wonderful human being, but people grow apart. I would work six months and then go for six months to my mother's village in the Himalayas perhaps."
