Sridevi and Hema Malini were the top contemporary actresses back in the 80s. While they were both bonafide stars in their own talent, there were frequent rumours of a supposed cold war brewing between the two divas. However, on the contrary, they shared a very amicable and friendly equation with one another. Moreover, since both Sridevi and Hema shared common roots in South India, it was far easier for them to gel with one another. Having said that, there was once a moment when Sridevi had taken a dig at Hema, and the reason is quite unmissable.
Being the superhit actress of her era, Sridevi frequently hit the headlines due to her link-up rumours. While there was once a steady buzz about the diva getting secretly married to actor, Mithun Chakraborty, on the other hand, there was another report of Sridevi being in an affair with an already-married actor, Jeetendra. However, in one of her earlier interviews with a leading magazine in 1984, Sridevi shut it all with a sassy response, as she mentioned:
“Never! Honestly, till this day, I have never been to Jeetu's hotel room, nor has he ever come home. I know people have been saying a lot of bad things, but this is the truth. I'm not a fool, but I am not a calculative person either. And I am certainly not a man-eater. It's not new to me. 'm used to and prepared for things like this. My parents, though conservative, know what this industry is all about. Besides, they have met Jeetu a couple of times and find him a very decent man.”

In the same conversation, Sridevi was specifically asked about her friend, Hema Malini’s decision to date an already married man, Dharmendra. Moreover, she was further probed that having second wives was a common thing in South. In her response, Sridevi tacitly agreed that dating an already-married man is not her stance and she would never do so. Moreover, she defended the claims made about women from Southern culture and emphasised:
“I will never marry a married man. It’s a wrong belief that second wives are a common feature in the South. Even here, it’s a big thing to marry a married man or have a second wife. Everyone gossips about it. People are more conservative in the South than in Bombay.”

Sridevi and Kamal Haasan were one of the top on-screen jodis back in the days. The duo served some memorable films to the audience, such as Sadma, Kuttavum Shikshayum, Guru, Varumayin Niram Sivappu amongst so many others. Interestingly, there was once a time when Kamal Haasan was approached by Sridevi’s mother with a plead to marry her daughter. Recalling the episode at an event dedicated to the memory of Sridevi after her death, Kamal explained how he refused the actress’ mother, stating that if they got married, both of them would get so mad with one another that Sridevi would have to be returned back to her home.
