Bollywood actor, Govinda was hailed as one of the leading actors during the 80s and 90s. However, his career trajectory gradually began to decline, and his movies failed to impress the audience. The actor has enjoyed huge stardom in the Hindi film industry in his prime, which attracted a lot of female attention. In her personal life, Govinda married the love of his life, Sunita Ahuja, in 1987.
In a recent conversation with Timeout with Ankit, Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, opened up about the female attention on her husband and revealed whether it affected her. Responding to it, Sunita shared that it takes a lot of security to be an actor’s wife and one needs to have a heart of stone. In her words:
“To be a hero’s wife, aapko dil mein itna bada patthar rakhna padega ya toh aap shadi na karo hero se.”
Sunita further mentioned that the female attention didn’t bother her as she is very confident in herself. She added that even if things were happening, Govinda came home to her every night. She pointed out that she is not saying that her husband is a cow and stated:
“Mereko farak nahi padta. You have to be very confident in yourself. Abhi aadmi hai voh, aap aisa nahi bol sakte gaay hai koi aadmi. Hota hoga. Theek hai na, ghoom fir ke raat ko ghar hi aa jata hai na.”
Earlier, during an old interview with Simi Garewal, Govinda opened up about the reason why he kept his marriage with his wife, Sunita Ahuja, a secret. He revealed that at that time, he thought his marital status would ruin his career in Bollywood, as keeping marriages a secret was a pretty common norm back in those days. Thus, Govinda and Sunita had then decided to keep their marriage a secret. But soon after that, the actor realised that it was a mistake. However, he said his wife was kind enough to support his decision. Then, Sunita was also asked if she ever felt bad about it, and she denied it.
Govinda has stepped away from the silver screen since 2019. His last successful film at the box office was Partner, which was released in 2007. After that, Govinda failed to deliver another box office hit, though he appeared in a total of 13 films following Partner. Those low-budget projects included Rangeela Raja, Friday, Aa Gaya Hero, Happy Ending, Kill Dil, Deewana Main Deewana, Loot, Naughty @40, Raavan, Do Knot Disturb, Life Partner, Chala Tala Chal, and Money Hai To Honey Hai. Despite delivering all flops and disasters at the box office, Govinda carved out a place for himself and achieved an unparalleled level of stardom.
