Suriya and Jyothika are the evergreen couples in the South film industry. Often referred to as the 'perfectionist' of the Tamil film industry, Suriya has proved his mettle in acting in movies like Nandha, Kaakha Kaakha, Ghajini, Kuselan, Singam, 24, 7aum Arivu, Jai Bhim, Soorarai Pottru and many more.
On the personal front, Suriya is married to actress, Jyothika and together they are doting parents to two kids, Diya and Dev. After the birth of their son in 2010, Jyothika took a break from acting to look after her kids and later made her comeback in 2015 with the film, 36 Vayadhinille. Suriya and Jyothika were seen together in the 2020 released autobiographical drama, Soorarai Pottru, produced under their home banner, 2D Entertainments.

On September 30, 2022, the National Film Awards were held, in which Suriya and Jyothika bagged the prestigious awards for Soorarai Pottru. The film which was based on Air Deccan’s founder GR Gopinath’s life, received various awards in different categories. While Suriya received the award for Best actor, his wife, Jyothika, the proud producer received the Swarna Kamal award. Taking to her IG handle, Jyothika posted pictures from the event and simply captioned them as “Proud and blessed!”

It was in the year 1999 when Suriya met Jyothika Sadanah, who hailed from Mumbai during the filming of Poovellam Kettupar. Both Suriya and Jyothika were not big stars then and were trying to make a foothold in the industry. It was during the filming of Kaakha Kaakha, the two had fallen in love.

When the film was released, the couple was believed to have gotten engaged. The engagement was a low-key affair, and it is said that Suriya had gotten engaged to Jyothika to get some time to convince his parents about their relationship. In the year 2006, Suriya and Jyothika culminated their beautiful relationship into the sacred thread of marriage.
During the promotions of the film, Soorarai Pottru, Suriya opened up about his romantic scenes in films. The actor stated that although he does a lot of romantic scenes on the big screen, in real life, he is completely the opposite of it. In the same interview, he also revealed his wife, Jyothika’s reaction when she watches him doing romance on-screen and said:
"I don't know how to explain it further. In fact, I'm not a romantic person. Jyothika would say that she has watched all my romance only on-screen and not with her."
