Surya Kumar Yadav is one of the most important heroes in India's T20 World Cup 2024 victory. His fearless battling, confident attitude, and best-in-class fielding became one of the highlights of this tournament. Although Team India was stranded in Barbados due to a hurricane, their joy of returning to the country hasn't decreased. As we eagerly wait to welcome the men-in-blue, Surya Kumar Yadav was interviewed by The Indian Express. In his interview, he gave new insights into the win, including the message of the skipper, Rohit Sharma, to the team before the high-intensity match.
Team India gave an all-round performance in the final match against South Africa. One of the causes of that level of confidence is the message of captain, Rohit Sharma to the team. Surya Kumar Yadav revealed that Rohit gave a moving message to the team on bringing out everything they can to the game that won't make them regret it later. He was quoted as saying:
"Before the final, he told us to keep it simple but said, 'I can't climb this mountain alone. If I have to reach the peak, I will need everyone's oxygen'. He also said, 'Joh bhi hai, paon mein, dimag mein, dil mein, just bring everything to the game. If that happens, we will not regret the night'. We all were moved."

Surya added that he has played a lot of cricket with Rohit Sharma in IPL and international matches. For the unversed, Surya Kumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma play for the Mumbai Indians franchise in the IPL. He added that Rohit tries to connect everyone outside the field, like in a hotel or beach, and to develop an understanding. As a result, whenever the team is in a crunch situation, a player wants to deliver for him and feels confident Rohit will support them.
Rahul Dravid ended his tenure as Team India's coach with the T20 World Cup win. For the unversed, his tenure ended last year after India's heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup final in 2023. However, Surya revealed that Rohit Sharma and Jay Shah called him and convinced him to continue to another world. As a result, Rahul Dravid, who couldn't win the World Cup as a player, finally got to lift the trophy as a coach. Surya added that Rahul Dravid thanked Rohit for convincing him to stay back after the win. In his words
"In the end, he came and thanked Rohit and said, 'Thank you, Rohit, for that phone call in November,' because he didn't want to continue after (India's loss in) the 50-over World Cup, but Rohit and Jay sir (BCCI secretary Jay Shah) convinced him to stay."

Surya Kumar Yadav picked one of the most important catches of the match, which sent David Miller back to the pavilion. It was a crucial moment in the most critical game of the tournament, and it has become a trending topic of discussion online. He revealed he didn't think much while taking the catch in the post-match presentation. Now, he shared how he has received more than 1000 WhatsApp messages and constant calls over that 4-5 seconds of the coach. Surya said:
"The amount of reaction I have been getting for that, people have been calling, messaging, there are more than 1,000 unread WhatsApp messages on my phone. The catch is all over social media. I'm grateful that I was there in those five seconds of play."
