Bollywood superstar, Amitabh Bachchan has made a huge name for himself. However, he always credited for his success to his parents, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. Over the years, Amitabh has expressed how his parents teaching shaped his life. But not many know that Teji Bachchan and Harivansh Rai Bachchan had shared a beautiful bond with Indian politician, Sonia Gandhi.
Yes, the Bachchans were always close to the Gandhis. In fact, Amitabh Bachchan's mother, Teji Bachchan was the best friend of Indira Gandhi. Gradually, their friendship deepened, and they often visited each other's homes. The relationship between the two families started with Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan as he worked at India's foreign ministry as a Hindi officer in Allahabad. Moreover, Jawaharlal Nehru respected him for his literary achievements.

Soon, Jawahar Lal Nehru's daughter, Indira Gandhi found her best friend in Teji Bachchan. Their families also developed a strong bond. They would often visit each other's homes. And Amitabh Bachchan would call Indira Gandhi his aunt. Amitabh Bachchan also found a friend in Rajeev Gandhi. However, their friendship ended on a sour note.

The families were so close that when Sonia Gandhi came to India for the first time, Amitabh Bachchan received her at the Palam airport in Delhi. In fact, Teji Bachchan became the godmother of Sonia Gandhi in 1968. She taught her Indian values and ethics. It is also reported that when Indira Gandhi was against Rajeev Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi's union, Teji Bachchan convinced her.

When Sonia Gandhi's parents came to India for her wedding, they stayed at Teji Bachchan's house, Sopaan, which the family had sold at Rs. 23 crores in 2022.
Sonia Gandhi always had a lot of respect for Teji Bachchan. Once in a 1985 interview, Sonia Gandhi heaped praises for Teji Bachchan. She shared that she learned a lot from Teji Bachchan, and she was like her mother. She said:
"I came to learn a lot from them. Teji aunty is my second... no, my third mother (after her own mother and mother-in-law Indira Gandhi)."
For those who don't know, Sonia Gandhi would always wish Teji Bachchan on her birthdays!
