Traditionally, women have always taken their husband’s surname post-marriage. But, these days brides are now opting to keep their maiden surnames with them. Moreover, they are also considering multiple options such as name combinations.
Even, Vidya Balan, Bollywood’s ‘gutsy’ beauty has recently put a full stop to the rumours of adding her husband, Siddharth Roy Kapur’s surname to her name. The actress said, “I don’t know who said that (I am changing my name to Vidya Balan Roy Kapur.) I remain Vidya Balan. I think Sid (Siddharth) and I both feel that since he will remain Siddharh Roy Kapur and not become Siddharth Balan Roy Kapur, so I will remain Vidya Balan and not become Vidya Balan Roy Kapur.” So, let us take a look at the name game every bride faces after her marriage.

Your name has been your identity ever since you were born. It is the name you are recognised with, both at your school and workplace. And, most importantly, your official documents too have your maiden surname. And suddenly because you got married, letting it go and taking on your husband’s surname can really be a tedious transition. But, if you decide to keep your name after marriage, well more power to you (as some in-laws might find it difficult to accept).
