Aryan Khan, the eldest son of Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan, is going to have a busy year ahead, with his upcoming directorial debut with his web series, Stardom. But did you know that Aryan’s Bollywood ‘debut’ actually happened 23 years ago? Yes, Aryan’s debut in the acting world was back when he was a child. As Aryan gears up for his first work as a director, let’s look back to the time he won hearts with his adorable cameo in K3G.
Today, December 14, 2024, marks 23 years since the premiere of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which remains an iconic Bollywood film etched in the memory of millions. Released in theatres on December 14, 2001, K3G quickly became the go-to comfort film for fans all across the nation. Even 23 years later, fans keep recreating Kareena Kapoor Khan’s iconic ‘Poo’ look, reimagining the dialogues, and fantasising about getting a loving partner like ‘Rahul’ (played by Shah Rukh Khan). What many might not know is that the young Rahul, who looked a lot like SRK’s younger self, was actually his son, Aryan Khan.
Let us refresh your memory further. Remember the flashback scenes showing Shah Rukh’s younger years with his on-screen parents, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan? Or the adorable child who came rushing into Jaya Bachchan’s arms in an emotional sequence? Yes, that was none other than Aryan, who was only four years old at that time. Even as a child actor, his cameo left an impression on fans. Aryan's role, though small, added to the emotional depth of the movie.
As the iconic movie completed its 23rd year of successful streaming, actress, Kajol and director, KJo, became nostalgic about those happy Bollywood days. Earlier today, Kajol took to her Instagram handle to share some throwback pictures from Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham, featuring the ensemble cast, including Kajol, SRK, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Hrithik Roshan among others. Dropping some photos from those days, Kajol penned a nostalgic caption that read:
“Life love and laughter. They just don't make em like they used to anymore. 23 years and some fabulous memories later … #23yearsofk3g #k3g #memories”

Last year, on the same day, Kajol shared a video collage of different moments from K3G, celebrating the film’s 22-year milestone. This was also the time that the actress officially confirmed Aryan Khan’s ‘debut’ on the silver screen to portray his legendary father’s younger self. Kajol penned a heartfelt note in the caption that read:

“22 years to #k3g … Another acronym but yes another long lasting memory!!! Yash uncle actually renovated and made new makeup rooms in Filmistan studios permanently just for the shooting of this film because even with the vanity vans it was not going to be enough for this gigantic starrer… And this was @___aryan___ 's debut on screen… this was a truly HUGE film in every which way, in life and cinema! #22yearsofk3g”

Not just Kajol but Karan Johar, too, became emotional at the successful 23 years of his directorial work. KJo took to his IG to share some behind-the-scene photographs from the K3G sets with the caption:
“23 years!!! Phew...truly one of those pinch me moments - right now & even back then...being on set with these legends!! It was my second film as a director and I think I was immensely fortunate that this magnanimous cast and the entire crew put in so much faith in me to deliver khushi & gham in abundance! The biggest shout out goes to the audience...the fans...our family - who continue to watch our film and recite every dialogue, dance on every song and keep this film alive in its truest sense...THANK YOU! 23 years of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham”

Fast forward over two decades, Aryan Khan is once again stepping into the limelight. However, unlike many Bollywood star kids who chase the allure of acting, Aryan has chosen a different route, as a director. He also owns a luxury streetwear brand, D'YAVOL, which received significant criticism from customers for its ‘ridiculously expensive’ prices.
Despite his lineage and a natural inclination toward the film industry, Aryan Khan has consciously distanced himself from acting. Aryan’s directorial debut will be a multi-genre six-episode Netflix series, Stardom, co-produced by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment. Scheduled for release in 2025, the series has already garnered significant buzz, and Aryan’s fans are eagerly awaiting its premiere. The series will reportedly feature many star cameos, including Shah Rukh Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Sara Ali Khan, among others.
