Over the generations, we have witnessed tons of controversies in Indian cinema. However, the one that happened between one of the biggest screenwriters of all time, Inder Raj Anand and the showman of Bollywood, Raj Kapoor is simply second to none. The biggest names of their era, Raj Kapoor and Inder Raj Anand were working together in the film, Sangam that had featured A-list actors like, Rajendra Kumar, Vyjanthimala, Lalita Pawar, Randhir Kapoor, and the list goes on.
During the film's release party, the who's who of the Indian cinema were present to celebrate the film's release and pour wishes on the film's cast and crew. Now, just imagine the pin-drop silence witnessed at the film's release party when the film's screenwriter, Inder Raj Anand slapped the film's lead actor, Raj Kapoor, in front of everyone. Well, in a throwback interview with a news portal, Inder Raj Anand's son and veteran actor and popular director, Tinnu Anand revealed what had happened after that controversial incident. So without further ado, let's get straight into it.

Once in an interview with Rediff.com, Tinnu Anand had opened up about his father, Inder Raj Anand's career's most controversial incident. Yes! You guessed it right! The doting son had talked about the day when his father had slapped the iconic actor, Raj Kapoor. Recalling the tragic incident that had happened on the release day of the film, Sangam in which Raj Kapoor had played the lead role, and Inder Raj Anand was the screenplay writer.
According to Tinnu Anand, his father, Inder Raj Anand and Raj Kapoor were indulged in a heated war of words and soon, his father had lost his cool. Although the topic on which Raj and Inder were fighting is still unknown. Tinnu Anand had shared an anecdote from the same and had said:
"My father also saw lots of ups and downs. He was the most popular writer in the film industry. He was writing about 18 films. A fight broke out between them on the night of Sangam's release and my father slapped Raj Kapoor."

Going further in the interview, Tinnu Anand had shared what had happened after his father, Inder Raj Anand had slapped Raj Kapoor and how the entire film industry had reacted to this moment of madness. Tinnu Anand had revealed that the entire cast of Sangam, along with all the big actors of the film fraternity, had come along and had decided to boycott his father. Tinnu Anand had further shared that in one night, his father had lost 18 films and had suffered a heart attack. The doting son had revealed:
"In retaliation, Raj Kapoor and all the people connected with Sangam -- Rajendra Kumar, Vyjantimala, Shankar-Jaikishen, Hasrat Jaipuri, Shailendra -- and their friends boycotted my father. In one night, my father lost 18 films. And then, he had a heart attack. It was a very tough time. He had this glorious future with those 18 films and, suddenly, all of that went away."

In the same interview, when Tinnu Anand was asked whether Raj Kapoor had come to see his father, Inder Raj Anand after the latter had suffered a heart attack and was admitted to a hospital. Answering this, Tinnu Anand had revealed that when his father was admitted to the hospital, Raj Kapoor was working in London.

Hence, he had sent his wife, Krishna Raj Kapoor to pay a visit to see Inder Raj Anand. The Kaalia director had added that all the cast and crew of Sangam, who had boycotted his dad earlier, had come back to see his father. Recalling the same, Tinnu stated:
"It was not just a monetary loss; his confidence was shaken. Everyone who was responsible for his heart attack realised what they had caused. They all came back to him. Raj Kapoor was in London then, so he sent his wife to meet him."
At the end of the interview, Tinnu Anand had also talked about the impact of his father, Inder Raj Anand's controversial decision to slap Raj Kapoor in front of everyone in his career. The doting son had shared that, unlike his father, he was fortunate enough not to have indulged in controversies. Sharing his thoughts about the same, he had showered immense praises on his wife, Shahnaz Vahanvaty and their kids, Lakshya Raj Anand, Esha Anand and Diksha Anand. He had explained:
"Luckily, I did not go through a financial slump like my father, but I have faced failure. I have a very strong family. My wife is very strong spiritually. My children are very strong. My daughter Esha has been to Antartica twice and to the Arctic once. She saves whales from ships that kill whales for profit. My daughter Diksha is a fashion designer -- she has done films like No Entry and Tere Bin Laden."
