Malaika Arora’s family is leading all the headlines after her father, Anil Mehta, ended his life on September 11, 2024, by committing suicide. Anil was 62, and as per police officials, he jumped off from the sixth floor of the building where he was living with his estranged wife, Joyce Polycarp. The exact reason for Anil’s suicide is not yet known, and an investigation is underway.

Malaika Arora’s parents, Anil Mehta and Joyce Polycarp, parted ways many years ago. However, they started living together a few years ago in the same flat in Bandra. The family would often come together for family dinners. Malaika’s mother, Joyce, is a food influencer and is quite active on social media.

While scrolling through her IG handle, we got unseen glimpses of Joyce and Anil as they celebrated many precious family moments. In the pictures shared by Joyce, we could see the couple enjoying every big festival with a lot of love and laughter with Malaika Arora and Amrita Arora.

Joyce also shared some happy moments with her ex-son-in-law, Arbaaz Khan, on her social media handle. For the unversed, Malaika Arora was previously married to Arbaaz Khan. After 19 years of marital bliss, the couple parted ways in 2016 and were officially divorced in 2017. Arhaan Khan is Arbaaz and Malaika’s only son. Despite their separation, Malaika shares a great bond with Arbaaz and his family.

What happened to Malaika Arora’s father, Anil Mehta?

On September 11, 2024, Anil Mehta reportedly committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of his building. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead. The reported reason for his death is stated to be multiple injuries. According to a report by India TV, a source revealed that before taking such a drastic step, Anil Mehta had called both his daughter, Malaika and Amrita. If reports are to be believed, Anil Mehta had told his daughters, 'I'm tired', on the phone. The call was made just before dying by suicide. 

Rumours of Anil Mehta suffering from depression

Ever since the news of Anil Mehta's death flashed the headlines, there have been many rumours doing the rounds. Some claimed that Anil was battling depression and was unwell for quite some time. It should also be noted that he was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai in 2023, but the reason behind the same is unknown.

After his demise, a close source revealed that Anil Mehta never showed any signs of depression, was always jovial, and doted on his daughters, Amrita and Malaika. The source added:

"They never saw this coming. Malaika’s father never showed any signs of depression. He was always jovial, always smiling and laughing, and he doted on his daughters (Malaika, Amrita). There was never any sign of depression. Nobody in the family has any clue why he did what he did.”

If sources are to be believed, Malaika’s mother said that Anil used to sit on the balcony and read the newspapers every morning. Joyce further shared that she saw Anil’s slippers in the living room early in the morning. So, she went to the balcony to look for him. However, she could not find him there. Suddenly, she heard the building watchman shouting for help. So, she leaned over the balcony to see below and found her husband lying on the ground.
