Usha Uthup, known for her grasp over singing, had gone through a tough phase when her husband, Jani Chacko Uthup passed away in Kolkata on July 8, 2024. As per the reports, Jani Chacko Uthup was 78 years old and suffered a cardiac arrest, which took his life. It was reported that Jani Chacko Uthup was watching TV when he felt discomfort, and he was taken to the hospital hurriedly, but unfortunately, he couldn't survive. Now, in an interview, Usha Uthup talked about her husband's demise and the grief that came along with it.
Talking to Indie'N Folk Project, Usha Uthup recalled the last day of her husband, Jani Chacko. She shared that in the morning, he wanted to watch a movie, The Guns of Navarone (1961), but as it was not found, he and Usha watched Ranveer Singh's movie, 83.

Usha shared that after watching the movie, she went to work in a studio and soon got a call from her son stating that there was something wrong with Jani. The singer rushed to the home, and her husband was taken to the hospital hurriedly, but he couldn't survive. Usha can be heard saying:
"He went like a king."
In the same interview, Usha Uthup was asked how she had been dealing with the grief. To this, the veteran singer revealed that it had been awful. The singer mentioned that although she and her husband had been married for more than 5 decades, he barely spoke 400 sentences and was a man of very few words. Usha added that she misses her husband, Jani Chacko Uthup, more in the morning hours as both of them were early risers. She added that although they didn't talk much, there was a sense of companionship.

Usha Uthup was married to the late Ramu Iyer earlier when she used to sing at restaurants and bars. If the reports are to go by, Ramu was supportive of her career, but the couple had been facing some issues in their marital life due to some irreconcilable issues.

Usha Uthup met Jani Chacko Uthup back in 1969 when she was singing at the Trincas. Well, the duo formed a mutual romantic feelings for one another. When Usha's first husband got to know about the same, he stopped the singer from doing shows in restaurants and bars. After staying together for a few times, Usha decided to leave her husband, and then she got married to Jani Chacko, and they welcomed two kids, Anjali Uthup and Sunny Uthup.
