Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani fame, Vahbiz Dorabjee has been making headlines for a while now. Since her ex-husband, Vivian Dsena entered the Bigg Boss 18 house, rumours started flying that Vahbiz would join him as a wild card entry. However, the actress has since cleared the air, saying that she is ‘not a reality show kinda person.’ Amidst the drama, Vahbiz opened up about the challenges she faced early on in her career. The actress was subjected to body shaming from society, friends, and even family members.
Vahbiz, who is still fondly remembered as Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani’s ‘Panchi Dobriyal’, had quite a rough start in her career. She revealed that a pressure for actresses to look a certain way was prevalent in the acting industry. And Vahbiz had to start facing it quite early in her career. Speaking about how a medical condition caused her to put on weight, she told Bollywood Bubble in an exclusive interview:
“In Pyaar Ki Yeh Ek Kahaani I was very thin and then because of the hours (spent on sets) and all the pressures, I started putting on weight. I got hyperthyroid at a very young age. (My weight/figure) was not in my hands because no matter how much I was trying, the weight was not going down.”
Vahbiz further revealed that her weight gain wasn’t the only cause of her pain. The actress stated that she was heavily body-shamed by society as well as her own family and friends, who didn’t try to understand her condition. Things got so bad that Vahbiz ended up in depression.
However, the realisation finally dawned on Vahbiz that this is who she was, and people could ‘take it or leave it.’ It was then that the versatile actress started rebuilding her confidence, which she describes as being split in half until that point. In her words:

“And believe it or not, more than trolling, it’s always first your friends and family who think they are very funny and speaking rude comments about you, putting you down. They are like, ‘Oh my God! You put on weight. We never expected you to put on weight.’”
Recently, there has been a shift towards body positivity as more and more women express their opinions loudly and confidently. And Vahbiz couldn’t be happier about the change. She expressed her appreciation for plus-size models, influencers, and actresses for coming out of their shells and said:
“This was a societal pressure which was placed on women before and they were always treated as the weaker sex. Now women are educated, they are working, they are so empowered, so that’s where the whole ball game has changed. Now women – whatever size they are, they are enjoying, they are wearing dressing, wearing swimming costumes. I believe nobody has the right to put you down.”
The despicable act of morphing is one many celebs in the limelight can’t seem to escape, and Vahbiz was no different. She opened up about her experience with it in the same interview with Bollywood Bubble.
According to the actress, the morphing incident took place just a few years back, but she had been body-shamed since long before that. She stated that such ‘rubbish’ happened to everyone, but it was hard to stop everyone in the digital world.
